The Story of a Hawk

Children! This is the story of a hawk that had been circling around a large pigeon loft for several days, waiting for the right moment to swoop down and snatch a flying pigeon. But the pigeons were very clever, alert, and quick in flight. Every time the hawk tried to catch one, they managed to escape, which left the hawk frustrated, unsure of what to do next.

After thinking for many days, the hawk devised a clever plan. She approached the pigeons and, sitting among them, spoke sweetly:

“Brothers and sisters! I am a bird like you, with two legs and two wings. You can fly in the sky, and so can I. The difference is, I am stronger and bigger, and I can hunt while you cannot. I want to protect you so that you can live happily, freely, and safely, as in the old days. Freedom is your birthright, and safeguarding it is my duty. I want justice and peace among you. I want a mutual agreement between us: if you recognize me as your king and give me full authority, I will fully ensure your protection and freedom.”

Day after day, the hawk repeated her sweet and persuasive words. Gradually, the pigeons began to believe her. After long discussions among themselves, they agreed to make her their king. Two days later, a grand coronation ceremony was held. The hawk took the oath solemnly, promising to protect every pigeon and ensure justice for all. The pigeons, in return, pledged full loyalty to their new ruler.

For some days, the hawk continued to visit the pigeon loft, caring for them and ensuring their safety. One day, she spotted a cat near the loft. Along with her companions, she attacked the cat fiercely, causing it to flee in fear. Through her sweet words and actions, the hawk kept the pigeons calm, safe, and aware of their freedom. Soon, the pigeons approached her without fear, feeling secure and satisfied.

One morning, while the pigeons were feeding, the hawk appeared weak and seemed ill. Sitting quietly for a moment, she spoke in her royal voice:

“Brothers and sisters! You wisely made me your ruler. I protect you, and you live in peace. But I, too, have needs. It is my royal right to catch one of you whenever I wish to satisfy my hunger. How long can I survive without eating? How long can I serve and protect you? It is not only my right but also the right of my royal family to take a pigeon when we wish.”

The hawk then swooped down, capturing a fat pigeon in her talons. All the pigeons watched in horror. From that day on, the hawk and her family came daily, taking pigeons they desired.

The pigeons, once free and peaceful, were now constantly anxious and fearful. Their security and comfort had vanished. They realized the consequences of their mistake and lamented:

“This is the price of our foolishness. Why did we make the hawk our king? What can we do now?”

The story ends as a warning about blindly trusting others without understanding their intentions, showing how freedom can be lost when power is given to those who cannot be fully trusted.

This story teaches us an important lesson: blindly trusting someone, no matter how persuasive or charming they seem, can lead to loss of freedom and security. Before giving authority or power to anyone, we must carefully consider their intentions and character. True safety and happiness come from wise decisions, awareness, and understanding, not from appearances or sweet words alone.
