INTRODUCTION

Doggy IQ, a brain training program for dogs, was launched globally and is currently on sale! With Doggy IQ, you can easily turn your dog into a genius. After finishing their first dose of training, you will forgive them if they happen to go hump the neighbor's leg.

The Doggy IQ Test:

While dog owners likely believe their pooch is the smartest one on the block, only one can take top honors — and perhaps a shiny trophy — for being the most intelligent canine in town.

That's where The Doggy IQ Test comes in: A series of brain-bending challenges created by Dr. Stanley Coren, a professor of psychology at the University of British Columbia and expert on intelligence in both humans and dogs.

The test was created for a "60 Minutes" segment that aired Sunday night, but you too can try it out with your own dog. While the test may look simple, it actually serves as a comprehensive assessment of your dog's cognition.

"This is a very cool tool," Coren said. "You just can't get a better estimate [of canine intelligence] than this."

Hide & Seek:

This exercise is based on the idea that a dog’s brain is like a muscle. It needs to be worked out. If it’s not worked out, then the dog will become bored and they may start picking up bad habits, like chewing on your favorite pair of shoes.

This exercise is called “Hide & Seek.” You and your dog will take turns hiding from each other in different rooms. Your dog will look for you by sniffing through the house and finding where you are. They will get better at this with practice.

To do this exercise you’ll need two people (or one person who can stand in two places at once). The first person should hide somewhere in the house while the second person brings the dog into the room and tells them to “Go find!”

The second person should stand still so that they don’t distract the dog from their task. The first person should remain hidden until they hear the dog sniffing around and then call out to them, “Here I am! Come find me!”

Why Mental Stimulation Matters For Dogs

When a dog's brain is stimulated, it's not just going to do something crazy like jump up and down, or wag its tail. When your dog's brain is stimulated, it will help him build more neural circuits and more connections in his brain. That means that your dog will be smarter.

Dogs are highly intelligent animals. While they're capable of understanding some human words and phrases, that doesn't mean that every dog is intelligent. Most dogs have the intelligence level of a two-year-old child. They're able to learn simple commands, but they don't understand complex concepts, like "sit," "stay" or "come."

The good news is that there are ways to make your dog smarter and increase his intelligence level. One of those ways is by stimulating your dog's mind with mental stimulation games.*

Sense of Smell and Taste:

Dogs' sense of smell is one million times better than a human's. They can sniff out bombs, drugs and even cancer.

Dogs also have far more taste buds than humans do. In fact, there are two types of taste buds — one for sweet and one for bitter. Humans have about 9,000 taste buds on their tongues, while dogs have about 1,700.

Their highly sensitive sense of smell makes them ideal for search and rescue missions, too. Dogs have been known to find people trapped in avalanches after days without food or water.

The shape of a dog's tongue is also different from that of a human. A dog’s tongue is long, flat and thin with pointed tips, while a human’s tongue has a more round shape.

Why Brain Training Matters More Than Breed When It Comes to Your Dog:

Dog intelligence is the ability of a dog to perceive information and retain it as knowledge for applying to solve problems. Dogs have been shown to learn by inference. A study with Rico showed that he knew the labels of over 200 different items. He inferred the names of novel items by exclusion learning and correctly retrieved those novel items immediately and four weeks after the initial exposure. Dogs have advanced memory skills. A study documented the learning and memory capabilities of a border collie, "Chaser", who had learned the names and could associate by verbal command over 1,000 words[87]. Dogs are able to read and react appropriately to human body language such as gesturing and pointing, and to understand human voice commands, although a 2018 study on canine cognitive abilities found that dogs' capabilities are not more exceptional than those of other animals, such as horses, chimpanzees or cats.

CONCLUSION: All in all, how you keep your dog's brain active is up to you; there are an endless number of ways to do so. The important thing to remember is that keeping your dog mentally stimulated will help it stay healthy, relaxed, and fit. Don't think of these as just passing moments; think of these games as additions to your dog's activity routine. They're a way for you and your dog to spend some quality time together and strengthen your bond. And with all the benefits that come with it, why wouldn't you want to spend more time doing it?
