My Fur Baby Has Left and I am Still Crying a Thousand Tears
Goliath, my “Choochy” pooch and the love of my life, came home today. There was no stopping the delta of tears that wound their way down my wrinkling face as I opened the royal blue satin bag that he arrived in. Inside sat a silver cannister, smaller than a can of premium dog food, that holds the remains of my beloved moodle. He came with a certificate that offered comfort that he was “individually cremated”. I wondered about that. It would not have been the same if he had been group cremated and then returned to me with two parts cocker spaniel, one-part rottweiler and a whiff of grey hound.

Player 2 Saved The Princess
For the past year, I have traversed the treacherous path of the professional creative. In the midst of an early quarantine breakdown, video games and knitting held together the shattered pieces of my eternally overachieving soul. With no job or general purpose in life, my self-image crashed full speed into a wall. I realized that I had centred my entire self-worth around my value as an employee.

EmPAWyee of the Month
I have proudly raised children who grew into amazing adults. I have carried the weight of giants on my shoulders easily. Choosing who my FURever sidekick would be, not such an easy task for me. Spending nearly a year researching and debating, frustration was getting heavy. Mentally smothered by the "what if's" that had overtaken me, I started to give up my search. Sadly, I chalked it up that the timing wasn't right to add a PAWtner to my writing team but possibly, I was anxious for the wellbeing of my first sidekick.

I Meditate with my Dog
Our dog Josie does not like thunderstorms. That’s true for a lot of pups, I know, and there are myriad ways we all try to help our dogs weather the storm (hehehe). There are the Thundershirts®, a snug fitting stretch shell jacket that gives the dog a cozy, secure feeling. We’ve put Josie in her crate (after my lap, her second favorite hang-out) and covered it with a blanket to make it safe and den-like. That works, a little. Sometimes.

A Tale of Two Rescues: How Experience and Resources Derived From Marine Mammal Facilities Drives Success in Whale Stranding Operations.
On July 11th, two self-titled “conservation” groups took charge of a beached killer whale calf off the coast of New Zealand under the authority of the New Zealand Department of Conservation. One group is Dr. Ingrid Visser fronted Whale-Rescue.org, and the other is Project Jonah, a group that previously had ties to the radical Sea Shepherd Organization in the late 2000s and early 2010s. For those who are unaware, Dr. Visser has led campaigns that target accredited marine mammal facilities that house cetaceans. This includes her efforts with the Free Morgan Foundation, which is dedicated to the release of a rescued orca under human care with documented hearing loss and an inability to hunt for herself. Sea Shepherd spearheads Operation 404, which has the following tagline on its skull and crossbones logo: ‘If You Support Captivity Sea Shepherd is Coming for You’.

Wool Felting
My project that I’m looking forward to doing with my Fiskar scissors is wool felting, I will use the wool from our sheep. I have a sweet Icelandic sheep named Rosa, although we mainly call her sheepy. I'm going to use the wool that we sheer from her. Rosa is incredibly sweet and calls out to us when she sees us, she also loves to sniff our faces and follow us around and when we pet her she wags her little tail (Icelandic sheep are born with little tails). She is also so fun to take selfies with.

The Real Queens of Wakanda VII: Into the Unknown
In our latest Queens of Wakanda entry that is in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, we get to know a marine mammal trainer who is currently based at the Miami Seaquarium in Key Biscayne, Florida. Lauren Beltran’s journey is truly one that involved her traveling “into the unknown”.

The Animals of My Life
My very first pet was a goldfish named Pish. Yes, Pish the Fish. To be fair, my family got him when I was maybe 4 years old, and I’m not even sure I’m the one who named him. There isn’t a lot I can tell you about a fish, especially since I was so young at the time, but here’s what I remember. He had his own place on a little table of some sort against one of the walls in our kitchen. He was a pretty normal looking goldfish, with a pretty normal looking bowl.
