dog
It's no coincidence that a dog is a man's best friend; they're more faithful than most other animals, and more faithful than many people.
A Pet Owner's Journey (Pt. 16)
There is never a dull moment when you own a dog. They are a constant surprise. Their personalities change over time. Their actions will sometimes never make sense to you. They are endless entertainment. And they usually make great cuddle buddies. I'm a little biased towards dogs as pets, but I own one so I think that gives me a pass.

I Miss You
It's been a month since I lost her. I'm not going to lie, the day she died, I felt as if a chunk of my heart died along with her. As they always tell you: when the days pass by, it does get a little easier to live without them, but it's the memories that still tend to sneak into my head at night and slowly roll down my cheeks.

Meila Moo Saves the Day
Meila Moo Saves the Day Meila Ruth came into my life on November 14th, 2017. I googled puppies on Craigslist, searched the Facebook marketplace and looked up every breeder in Tennessee. I found little Meila and her brothers and sisters on Craigslist finally. She was the runt of the litter. We drove over an hour to pick her up and she was half the size of the brother they brought along for us to choose from.

Introducing: Lucy and Molly
As I am sitting at the kitchen table with Pandora playing my favorite music, I cannot help but contemplate where my life has taken me to. I could regret choices unmade or decisions made in haste, but every moment has led me to where I am. I have been led to typing at the table with the most adorable Yorkshire terrier sleeping soundly on the chair next to me and a boxer mix who likes to sleep on the spare bed starting at dark time.

Meet Dottie
Anxiety. To say the least it's the most powerful emotion any single person can ever feel. Sometimes even unbearable. Four-legged creatures can help any person who feels trapped, anxious and down right sluggish. Everyday I come home and embrace the power of what it feels like to hug this sweet girl. MEET Dottie, my best friend and ultimately the one four-legged creature I've ever owned that can make a bad day, a beautiful one. Dottie was a rescue that came from a seriously down-spiraled environment and was taken in by a family friend, who ultimately ended up letting me adopt her. Dot's almost a year old and we've only had her a couple months, she's loving and probably the biggest teddy bear of a Pit bull you'll ever meet. IF you're anything like me then you'll understand what it means to find a best friend in a dog who has completely changed MY life around and my spouses.

Should My Dog Sleep on My Bed with Me?
As a dog owner and avid dog lover myself, I have always been curiously fascinated by this question. My little guy Theo is a toy poodle, so he’s always been small enough to snuggle with at night. For the most part, you won’t even know he’s there. But how many times have I heard from other fellow dog owners (my mother included) that dogs shouldn’t be allowed on the bed? Too many times to count. We hear stories about kids with autism or children who have disabilities that are coaxed into comfort with the companionship of a dog. A dog’s presence is unconditional and pure, without any harmful intentions that cause pain, hurt, suffering. We as human beings continue to collaborate with dogs to create a harmonious environment for those around us on a daily basis.

Grief and Carrying On...
Our dog died... there, I've said it. It's been a struggle this last month and to be honest I'm surprised it's only been a month. I keep expecting to look at the calendar and discover that, much like an old cartoon or film, the months have just flown past as if by magic, but they haven't. Poppy died late afternoon on Thursday, December 14, 2017; she was just six years old.

A Pet Owner's Journey (Pt. 15)
There is no one happier in the world to see you come home than your dog. You could have been gone an hour or a month and they will always greet you with their tails wagging. They are always excited to see you, to know that you are still part of their lives.
