dog
It's no coincidence that a dog is a man's best friend; they're more faithful than most other animals, and more faithful than many people.
Through the Fence
The first time I saw Alice was on Instagram. I was elbows deep scrolling through the followers of the pet account I had set up for Edgar, our one-and-a-half year old Olde English Bulldogge, when I saw Alice’s face. It was posted by a small family hobby breeder that Edgar “followed.” Her face was white, and her eyes—one brown, one blue—stared sadly though a chain link fence. The post caption stated that she had returned to their home after three months with a family. The breeders were looking for a new home for her—somewhere with room where she could be cozy inside with a family most of the day. She was barely six months old.

My Massive Rottweiler That Was Scared Of Bubbles
I have always been a dog person, mainly because since I was a child I was always surrounded by them. And I'm not just talking about poodles and beagles, I grew up among Pitbulls, Rottweilers and Dobermans, you know, the breeds that many people fear.

Jackson: The Unofficial Therapy Dog
I think it goes without saying that we’re always happier and having more fun when we have pets. They give us all the love, companionship, and therapy in the world. And my family and I have had no shortage of it the last 9 years, thanks to our beloved dog, Jackson.

Finding Comfort in the Chaos
Ten years of life had been dedicated to a doting dog. He was praised, beloved by many, and spoiled beyond most. I had had him since he was a puppy; given to me with a heart murmur and undeveloped lung. We had been given a warning from the vet that we’d only get two months and yet together we beat the odds. Over time his heart had outgrown the murmur and his lung fully developed. Everyone joked that it was love which healed him but I knew they were right. We completed each other because he found me when I, too, was broken with no spare parts to heal what was missing inside. As the years went on he made whole what did not exist before and taught me how to love while accepting love in return. That was what led to the horrendous sorrow that came the day he died. November 7th of 2019 my world drastically changed and he was gone.

Calypso the Adorable Pup
I met Calypso two days after I had to say goodbye to my best friend, familiar, and beloved furbaby, Selene. Her health had started to deteriorate a couple of years prior and the year before saying goodbye to her we’d discovered she had a rare type of cancer that was inoperable and had no treatment. The type could be either aggressive or super slow growing. Sadly, Selene had the aggressive version of this cancer and even while writing this almost 3 years later I get teary eyed over the loss. I knew there was no way I could handle the void there was without having a dog in my life. One of my best friends knew this; she was with me the day Selene passed.

Trevor
When I first met my fiancé, she had three big dogs. I mean BIG dogs. Their names were Phooey, Stella, and Sophie. Phooey, was her prized favorite. He was a beast of a dog. So big in fact, his nickname "Bear." He had a Foo Man Chu like "beard" across the bottom of his gentle face that earned him his official moniker. He was older, and had lost mobility in his hind legs. She and her ex-husband, who still lived with her, took great care of Phooey.

Napoleon the Conqueror (of Hearts)
This was the text exchange between me and my boyfriend Addison four years ago when he discovered Napoleon. He had found the dog (quite literally, on the street) while visiting a small town called Beersheba in Tennessee where his family stayed every 4th of July, and I was visiting my own family in Richmond.

The puppy and the punt thieves
I was beaming from ear to ear. The few pints of pale we had chugged at the pub were starting to work their magic. Me and three of my buddies armed with driving licences which belonged to our older brothers, had managed to get served at our local pub.

Until we meet again...
I have always loved dogs and knew I would have a dog as an adult. I never could have imagined the positive impact that being a dog owner would have on my life. I also never imagined that my adoption of Mason on that cold day in January would change my life.
