My Adventurous Mr. Wallaby
I was working at a zoo when a rusted out burgundy sedan pulled up to the back gate just as we were opening. The car door swung open and out of the back-seat leaped an all black lighting bolt of a puppy. The puppy ran through the gate into the zoo. The beat-up sedan took off, screeching its tires as it peeled away.

Cat anyone? Bird anyone?
Chapter 1 I was never a cat person. Nor was I ever a bird person to be honest. Look, you could say that I was an 'animal lover' ...in the sense that if either the National Geographic or Animal Planet channels was on, my eyes would be transfixed on the television screen, enjoying the colourful visuals and scenes of various animals (preferably cute ones of course) while also absorbing the dulcet tones of David Attenborough explaining interesting facts about whichever species of animal was the focal point of that episode.

Buster brown
I just wanna say when I walk into the dog shelter the first thing I hear are dogs barking, but for the first time in my whole life I walked past a kennel where a silent beagle was laying sprawled out like jello. My first thought was he was new or he was just scared but as soon as I turned the corner I hear an adorable “BOWOOOO” echo through the building. One of the tenants ran past me, right up to the dogs cage trying to see what was wrong.

Doggedly Determined
Sheltered from the warm summer drizzle in the garage of a suburban house, my family and I watched a dog rescue volunteer lift from a crate in the back of her SUV a little blonde bundle of fur. She latched a leash on its collar and set it down on the garage floor. We all watched the Lhasa Apso’s silent approach. She sniffed the floor and smelled our toes. She looked up with gentle brown eyes and cocked her head to one side.

A Lifetime of Dog Years with Tommy. Top Story - December 2021.
As always in December, Tommy’s been on my mind. I thought about him as we trimmed the tree with the pictures and dog tags of the seven dogs who've walked by our sides these last 24 years. I thought about him as we ate a tuna casserole one Sunday in December because tuna was his very favorite food, so much so that when we visit his grave we bring a can of tuna instead of flowers.

I Rescued a Cat
I live in Japan, the land of the rising sun, and Hello Kitty. The country overflows with kawaii culture, robots, and sadly cats; specifically, stray cats. They are everywhere you go whether you are in the big cosmopolitan cities like Tokyo or Osaka, or in small suburbs and countryside areas.

Sigrunn - My best girl
I have owned many pets throughout my life. My family often moved around due to the nature of my fathers job. Due to the constant uprooting of homes and friendships my parents were inclined to provide their three daughters with animals as a form of companionship. We had owned dogs, cats, birds, fish, mice, rabbits and at one stage even chickens. I loved every single one and decided quickly that in the future I would never live without at least one pet.
