Her name is Sunny
Sunny is a sweet female Leopard Gecko. A leopard gecko is a good pet beginner reptile owners, easily handle. She’s been with us for a year. Crickets and hornworms are her favorite type of foods, especially hornworms. I love my gecko, but I’m nervous touching hornworms, their faces and bodies just make me creeped out. If I could explain their faces when I look close, it would never end and make me not focus on the theme of this story. I love to hang out with Sunny and describe her colors, to make a perfect description. Sunny has a yellow, white and pink color to her skin. You can see her chubby tail has a pink color it. It was yellow, skinny and more symmetrical to her body before it broke off. Why is her name Sunny? It’s because her dominant color is yellow just like the sun. Yes, I did some research about leopard geckos before I got her. I brought Sunny when she was size of my thumb. It took time for her to adjust a new environment, a new place, a new home and her new parents. I like to say that I am her mommy.

She was a healthy baby Leopard Gecko until one day during the winter season, I came home I saw Sunny tail was out of her cave. I felt weird seeing her tail was away from the cave. After I had my dinner, I went to check on Sunny. I opened her terrarium and lifted up her cave and I saw she looked like she was dying, her body was cold, I checked her heat lamp and it didn’t her heat proper. I was so terrified seeing her condition; my feeling was sad and angry thinking that I was not a good keeper. I picked her up and I felt her body was weak and she still breathing, knowing that she still was breathing, I quickly fixed the heating lamp. Then I also grabbed a portable ceramic heater. I made sure that she had enough heat inside her terrarium including making sure the room temperature was good. My 5 years old daughter grabbed a towel to comforting Sunny before we put Sunny back in her terrarium, my daughter tried to help me taking care Sunny. My daughter tried hard to make Sunny stayed alive, even if we adjusted all of the heat and included making the room temperature got warm. My daughter kept look out for Sunny, she checked by seeing Sunny moved her body or not until we went to bed.

I remember that I didn’t sleep very well because that night, I felt nervous anxious thinking about Sunny. I was very worried about her. I woke up in the middle of the night and kept checking on her condition. In the morning, my daughter checked on Sunny, she told me if Sunny gets better and able to move body, i came to Sunny terrarium, I saw Sunny moving her body, I started thanking God, even if she took her time to move her body but at least there was a hope that she would survive the rough night. I checked her terrarium and room temperature and it was warm. That was my careless moment; you can curse me or call me a bad reptile keeper. My daughter always keeps an eye on Sunny until now. I remember my daughter cried when she saw Sunny in a weak body and she was happy when she saw Sunny got better. She loves Sunny.

Since then, I have paid more attention to Sunny and what is going on with her. Reptiles cannot talk, don’t make a lot of noise, sometimes they hiss but for some people they will think a reptile hiss is a part of how they breathe, they look at us, hope that we can understand their emotions and understand what they are feeling. They will make you feel like someone special by putting their trust in you.

Sunny condition now is she always comes out from her cave when she hears my voice and gives me a smile. I know leopard geckos always smile but I can see she gives me a sweet smile. To us, Sunny is a part of our family and we love her.

Well, thank you for reading my story. Have a wonderful day everyone.
