Pet Mom

You Don't Need Human Children to be a Parent.

By Aindrea MccoyPublished 5 years ago 2 min read

I am always asked do you have any children? I am 28 years and have never had human children. So my answer alwasy end up do pets count as children? For me, they do, I have a cat and a dog. Both fight like brothers and are just as crazy and destructive as a toddaler. The dog is ranging on hormonal teen though so I say pets count as children. Not all moms or dads can have children let alone the finacial stability to adopt human children. So if asked do you have kids? Say yes they are four-legged (Some times three-legged if something happened) and have fur and bark or meow. Be a proud pet mom/dad and talk all about your crazy four/three-legged fur babies. Yes, even birds and other animals can count. share those crazy stories of your cat scaring your dog or how your bunny stole the cat's food. Never know who would love to hear about your crazy fur family flaunt those babies with pride!

Howie My adopted fur baby.

I have always wanted a black cat, not many people like them due to the old folklore of black cats being unlucky. I have never picture any type of cat to be unlucky and have loved black cats for as long as I can remember. Their eyes show so much expression and their personalities are something you don't always expect. The handsome cat above I adopted at one of our local shelters when he was 10 months old. He came in scared of everything and with a cold. After some changes and adjustments, he got healthy and now owns the house. At least he thinks he owns the house. He is always testing the dogs and loves to sneak up on my mom's dog Max who is about his size and just bop him on the head and run. The occasional times he is nice he sleeps next to my brother's old dog Ivy and looks so innocent. Howie was the name given to him by the shelter and I chose to keep it instead of changing it, I thought Howie fit him well.

Max was also a rescue my mom wanted a little dog but had no idea when she went to go meet the person who was selling him that she was rescuing him from a puppy mill he was infested with flees and very thin, after a much-needed bath and many many flee baths we got him cleaned up and flee free. Now he thinks he is the big bad dog.

Onyx and Howie

Onyx was brought to me by my uncle who found him wondering in a park when he was a puppy. All of my family's animals have been rescues of some kind in one way or another. Onyx and Howie don't always get along but on rare times they will curl up together and sleep, however when it comes to who sleeps in the big bed at night neither can share.

I may not have human babies but I have pets and that for now is what I love most, they are not just pets they are my kids. They are family, not beings you can just toss out because you're bored of them. They are a commitment and like human children, you chose to have them you should treat them with the same love you would family. That is my opinion at least.
