One Great Dog
What Maximus has done in my life

"In this life, you're meant to have one great dog," I said.
"One that shifts something deep inside you, in a way you never saw coming. He shows up, maybe when you need him most, maybe when you're too lost to see it. And in the smallest, most ordinary moments, he changes you"
I paused, thinking of all the nights I trudged through. Feeling like I was carrying the weight of the world alone.
"He makes it bearable, who brings you back when you're teetering on the edge. He doesn't try to explain or preach. He stays there, showing you a kind of love you didn't think existed."
And that's the thing about that one great dog. He makes you question how you ever got by without him. You look at him, lying there, and realize he has given you more than any person ever has. No big speeches, just a presence that says I'm here with you. And somehow, that's enough to change everything.

I'd love to hear about you're great dog or cat in the comments.
I do have a favor to ask. Maximus is competing in America's Favorite Pet and needs your vote! It is free to vote but means the world to us. You can see on our TikTok or YouTube what we would do if we won, but it is safe to say it would be life-changing.
I hope Max's story inspires others to rescue, enjoy their dog's senior years, and not give up on medical dogs.

I had no idea what was in store for Max and me. How much we would go through together and how much I would need him in the upcoming years. I am writing this story as a 25-year-old, Max just turned 11 and I can’t believe how time flies. Because of Max, I have rescued 6 dogs, a cat, and a chicken, Their stories will soon come, and we are currently working on opening an animal rescue to save countless more animals. Max is currently battling cancer so I know our days are numbered, but I hope his story will encourage you to go to your local shelter and look at cats, You never know who you will find.
I never believed in soul mates, The thought of there only being one person out there for you sounds silly. However, I didn’t realize my soul mate would come in the form of a dog.

Consider adopting! Only 1 out of 10 dogs born will find a home. Adopting a pet from a shelter is a powerful and compassionate choice that can make a significant impact on both the animal's life and your own. Shelters are often overcrowded, and many animals are left waiting for loving homes. By adopting, you give these animals a second chance at happiness and stability. Most shelter pets are well-trained, socialized, and in need of affection, making them wonderful companions.
Choosing to adopt rather than buy from a breeder helps reduce the overpopulation problem, as millions of pets are euthanized each year due to a lack of space in shelters. Additionally, adopting from a shelter can save you money on initial costs such as vaccinations, microchipping, and spaying or neutering, which are typically covered by the shelter.
When you adopt, you're also sending a message about the importance of kindness and compassion. Shelters often prioritize rescuing animals from dangerous or neglectful situations, and your adoption helps break the cycle of abuse and abandonment. Not only does it enrich your life with the unconditional love of a pet, but you become part of a larger effort to create a more humane society. Ultimately, adopting a shelter pet is a win-win for both the animal and the adopter.
