My Lord Freyr By: Danyel Fields

My Snow white little dickhead. My best friend through thick and thin.

I was 32 years old when I picked out Lord Freyr from a litter of puppies of my sister's American Eskimo which was bred with a American Eskimo/ Chihuahua mix. Out of six puppies he was the one that warmed up to me first and would listen to me over any of her other dogs. This is what started building the bond he and I had.

Not saying our bond was the best at first but we grow to love one another. It was more of an understanding that I was the one who took care of his ass and he was there for me when everyone else would leave me to the wind.

I did think I lost him one night while I was out night fishing. He normally stayed right by my side but this night he got in trouble for eating my wireless ear buds and must have thought he needed to hide and ran off. After I noticed he was gone I packed up my fishing gear and went out looking for him. Driving down every two-track I could find, calling out for him to no avail. After a couple of hours looking I called it a night and went back to my sister's where I was staying. When I got there she was wondering where Freyr was and I told her about what had happened and she seemed totally sorry about it.

I was thinking he would be a goner staying out in the woods all night. He was just a small white puppy lost out in the woods with so many other critters looking for something to eat. I didn't get much sleep that night, I was to worried to get any shut eye.

The next morning came pretty quick. As I was getting around to go to work, I told myself I will make one more effort to go and find my puppy. As I was driving back to the place I was the night before I was praying that I would be able to find him. Driving back down the same two-track I was down the night before I was calling his name but nothing. Getting back to the lake I seen a camper that wasn't there the night before and turned my wheels sharp to pull back in the same spot. As I did so I was over joyed that my Lord Freyr was sitting right next to the tree that I parked beside. All I had to do was open the door of my truck and he jumped right in. He went to the passenger sit and curled up on his bed. Just say we were both happy I made that trip back to get him.

Lord Freyr went everywhere with me pretty much. He would stay in the truck while I was at work. Not like in, in the truck because of the fact that he would have probably ate everything he could have and I wasn't having that. I had a cage in the back with his bed, food, and water. Plus a blanket covering the cage to make it feel more like a house, than a cage. Fishing, hiking, and camping were dear to us both because I never really had a place of my own and the places we were able to stay at never really lasted that long. People always wanted more than I could give to them but that is just a aspect of my life that has been the same.

Lord Freyr and I went through some pretty hard times together and neither of us would have made it if it wasn't for the other.

The hardest time we ever had was living in a mini-van in 20 below weather in Michigan. I was cutting firewood with a bow saw for a family member just to get enough money to get him and I food and put gas in the van so we wouldn't freeze to death in the middle of the night. it wasn't fun all the time but he and I made the most of it and had plenty of play time when I wasn't working.

At the end of December I got a call from one of my friends that was helping his dad run a business and asked if I was willing to move in with him and help him with the business. And of course I said yes, anything would have been better then freezing our butts off. The family members I was working for paid me enough money to make the trip up to my friends house but weren't to happy I was leaving their driveway because I was the only one willing to help them out and do the work I was doing for so little. After I was paid I made the two and a half hour trip and was finally at my friends house.

Lord Freyr and I had a room in the basement. It wasn't much and we made the most out it because it was more than we had. The first couple of weeks were hard for the both of us. I was working split shifts and he was only out of his house whenever I was there and had to hold it until I got back but he seemed to understand that because he never went to the bathroom in his cage and once he was out he didn't want to go back in for a while.

He was on a lead for some of the time but once he was off that boy would run like lighting all around the yard. Once I called him back he knew where his lines were and would try and break his record time getting back to me.

Damn, we really did have some really fun times. He wasn't much of a people puppy though and if I didn't introduce you to him, he would attach without thought. Razor blade nails and teeth. I still have scars on my arms from him and he has been gone a couple years now. With him not being a people puppy someone poisoned him and I had to put him down three years ago on the 4th of July.

So, in saying that R.I.P. Lord Freyr Dickhead Fields. Daddy loves you and misses you all the time and wish we shared more time together. I can't wait to see you again in my heaven to raise some more hell together. Maybe you can teach your sister's how to track like you.
