Weathering the Storm
If you have been following the news at all, you're probably aware that Hurricane Ida swept through the Deep South and continued up the coast as a major tropical storm. She was even more powerful than Katrina, hitting on Katrina's 16th anniversary. As I write this, over 500,000 people in Mississippi and Louisiana are still without power from the storm. We were among the lucky ones. Even though we lost power, it was only for a couple of days. We had no structural damage and only a few trees came down. We were blessed.

Echo
September 10, 2021 This morning I feel good, like really good, probably the best I have felt in nearly six weeks. My sleep was mostly uneventful, except for the crazy dream that woke me just before midnight. Looking around the room, my lamp still on, helped bring me back to reality: I was at home and not in Afghanistan. Back to sleep.

Hawks and Chickens
"You were a hawk raised like a chicken." Said my therapist. He'd said a lot of other things too, but that was the phrase that stuck in my head. It was a story in itself. A hawk raised as a chicken. There are folk tales with that theme, and how once the hawk sees the sky she could lift her wings and fly.

Señorita Rita
I grew up with an inescapable allergy of cats. Why? Because I was cursed as a baby. I'm not quite sure if my great, great grandparents did something unforgivable or if there was just a biological defect, but it is cruel, nevertheless. Whenever I see a fluffy cat, I just want to rub my face in their face; It is often followed by watery eyes, sneezes, and a sad soul. That was until I came across this magnificent creature, Rita.

Cat Transporter
It turns out that if you live in Australia and want to purchase a cat from the Country of Russia you can not do so directly. For a variety of reasons, some legitimate, some political, it is impossible to import domestic animals directly into Australia from Russia without a stopover in a different country from which such transactions are allowed. Surprisingly it is possible to send animals, domestic cats at least, directly from the United States to Russia. All of the facts in the above introduction were completely unknown to me until approximately three weeks ago when a good friend of mine asked if I would be willing to help her transfer two kittens from Russia to Australia.
