Gunther & Andi

The best doggos I could ever asked for...

Andi (Left) & Gunther (Right)

One night while I slept soundly in the comforts of my bed, I could hear my parents talk as they walked through the front doors of our 3-bedroom house. They were talking aimlessly, about everything, and the nothings we endure as a family. A new sound that hasn't been heard in a long while had made itself known, then it continued to make even more noise. With a jump in my heart, I slowly crawled out of my bed, down the hall, and then found my father holding a small puppy. His fur was light brown with black, and white flecks of hair all over. My parents had gotten him from a nearby community, a family relative was giving away a litter of puppies, and my parents had named him Gunther. We could never keep an animal since we lived a life where priorities weren't met with. Everything changed when we had Gunther though, and I miss him a lot.

We had a counter that had it's small door off, and we kept our flour there, anyways, Gunther would make himself comfortable beside it, and he would nap laying on his back. He slept like that for a couple months then he slept like how dogs usually sleep, whatever seems comfortable to them is their way to go. Thinking back makes me smile, and having photos of both my fur babies sleeping rather cutely is my best memories of them. One of my far bestest memory is when Gunther would nudge his head underneath my arm whenever I sat on the steps or the ground, and he would do that everytime I was upset too. The memory is the greatest, but also the painfullest. I cherish it.

Gunther found Andi all by herself, shivering from the cold, and cowering against the ground because Gunther was barking at her in interest. When I picked her up, she seemed fragile, but within a day Andi was back to being a puppy. Andi is a beautiful dog, she had a small patch of white fur right in the center of her chest, and a little more on one toe of her right back paw. She was such a small puppy, and I could probably tell you she was a lap dog since she was small. My neighbors didn't have the time of day to keep her, nor was their children suited since the parents had to give her away because of the children. I don't hold it against them, I'm forever grateful I was given a chance to keep her, and Gunther.

Andi slept on her belly, with her four little paws stretching outwards, and would only sleep like that around me. There was a time when I had her sleeping by my feet, and I had gotten used to it, to the point that she would whimper, and make herself look small to somehow convince me she belonged at my feet. Anyways, I had heard my grandma's own dog, (Bubbles was his name), was stolen, and was never found. So, in my heart, which saddens me to this day, but relief on my mind was settled. I had given my Andi to my grandmother, who wasn't the same when Bubbles was taken.

After a couple years, my grandmother had told me Andi was having a batch of puppies, and I had told my parents I wanted one. When we travelled to my grandmother's house, we seen five puppies, and I was sold on one with just one glance. His fur was white, and he had several big black spots on his fur, so naturally, I called him Moo. For he resembled a cow in my eyes. And the thought of my calling for him made everything even better. Moo was a mixed breed, he had a bull-dog face, his body didn't have the form of one, Moo was a little bigger than his mother Andi, (her height was at least 30 inches, possibly more), his fur was also short, but smooth.

Gunther, Andi, and Moo will forever be in my heart, and soul. And if anything, I wish I can go back in time to have them within my arms one more time.
