Daisy’s POV

We’re about four months old now, Beanie and I, and a lot has changed since we first found our forever home. We’re still the crazy, loving pups that came to live with My Girl and Her Girl, but we’ve developed our own little quirks and we’ve learned so much.

To start, let me tell you a little bit about the changes in our physical appearances. At first glance, anyone who sees us will tell you that we still look like twins! Our coloring and our small bodies are a dead give-away! But, when you spare a closer look, we appear more like fraternal twins!

First, I’ll tell you a little bit about Beanie. Little Ben or Benny, as My Girl has come to affectionately call my sister, has definitely inherited more of the Pomeranian genes. While we both seemed to have the thick fluffy fur known to Poms when we were younger pups, I outgrew it but Beanie never did. Her fur is still thick and fluffy, and it’s a rich cream color. She’s got a skinny little snout, pointed ears, and bony legs! Her Girl and My Girl always joke that she’s got the build of a big dog in a tiny dog’s body!

As for me, my fur has grown a lot longer, and instead of growing thick and puffy, it’s grown down so that it hangs like the fur of a Maltese! It has also grown a lot lighter in color so that it’s dark cream at my spine but fades into white. My fur isn’t thick like Beanie’s but it is very fluffy. If you look at the two of us, you’ll see that the fur atop Beanie’s head slicks back, while mine poofs over my eyes like a funny little crested chicken!

My ears have also grown oh-so-big, and My Girl always laughs as she makes a joke about Little Red Riding Hood, comparing my ears to the Big Bad Wolf! But that’s not where the comparisons end! My little paws are also just as fluffy as the rest of my body, and My Girl and Her Girl call them “Grinch Feet”.

We’ve also grown a little bit bigger, too. It’s hard to notice sometimes because it’s so gradual. But you can see the changes in many ways, including how our faces have developed and the fit of our harnesses. Mine still fits perfectly because I was the runt of the litter and it had been big to begin with. But, while I’ve got a small chest and I weigh hardly more than a feather, Beanie has grown a sturdy chest, and she will be outgrowing her harness soon if she grows any bigger. But, it’s still a mystery whether we’ll grow any bigger than we are right now!

And, speaking of growing bigger… our appetites have grown as well! We love our treats shaped like little tacos and burgers, and we’ve learned “sit”, “paw”, and “down”! I have also learned how to jump on the couch and use the stairs (I love to run up and down them!), but Beanie is still scared of heights, and it is taking her more time to learn. We’ll do anything for our little treats, though, and My Girl and Her Girl are always trying to teach us more!

But, on the topic of food, let me tell you: we are also quite fond of playing with our food! We love to dip our paws into the dry-food bowl and take our kibble to different places in the room! One of the fun things that we do is chase each other around with kibble between our teeth. My Girl always gets so nervous when we do this, and she will chastise, “Be careful, pups! Chew and swallow… don’t play with your food!”

Sometimes we even drop pieces of our dry-food into our water bowl, too. For some reason this bothers me, though, so I always poke my head into the water like I’m bobbing for apples until I pick it out. My Girl will laugh at me because I pull my head out looking like a soggy pup! Nothing like a good wash!

And nothing like good fun, either! We love to eat our wet food, as well, but the best thing is… the bowl! The bowl! We push the plastic bowl of wet food around the room like it’s a toy, and we tip it over, and then we eat the food from the ground. Once that food is gone (or even before it’s gone) we’ll chew on the bowl, too! My Girl and Her Girl will tell us, “Babes, you can’t eat the bowl!” But it’s so much fun! Sometimes we’re naughty pups… We’ve still got a lot to learn!

Including the word “no”. That one is a toughie. My Girl and Her Girl tell us “no” when we chew on the bicycle in the living room, “no” when we try to eat the couch”, and they’ll tell us "no" when we chew apart the training pads. But, we’re still trying to connect the command with the action, so it hasn't quite stuck.

We also have gotten into the habit of barking at the sound of our neighbors coming home, as well as other dogs barking. And we recently went to the ocean for the first time, and we walked along the waterfront! It was so much fun, and we got to breathe in the salty air for the first time! But, there were a lot of people and dogs, and we got very excited to see everyone. Beanie and I barked at the top of our lungs because we wanted to say “hi” to everyone we saw!

Her Girl and My Girl are trying to teach us that we don’t need to bark at everything that we see. They tell us, “You’re okay, little ones. You don’t need to bark. You’re okay. I will protect you, darlings.” But, we just get so excited because everything is still so new! We met a lot of people and a lot of animal friends when we were new to our forever home, but we are still meeting more and more each day, and there are so many more than I ever imagined! It’s all so very overwhelming!

We’re trying our best to be well-behaved pups, but it sure is hard being a pup with so many things to be taught! Still, at least we have our yummy treats to keep us motivated!

Lately, we’ve also been going outside for walks! And every day our walks get longer and longer! We have so much energy, so we love to run and run in the green grass! And, boy, the grass is very green! Now that it’s springtime, the weather is so nice and everything outside is growing! I love that the world smells like flowers and dirt and trees, and I love the feel of the sunlight on my fur!

Since Bean and I were born in the winter, we didn’t know that it could ever get warmer! But now the sun shines and the birds sing and the world is so lively! Who knew that the world could be so warm and inviting! It’s an adventure every time we go outside because we get to explore new places that we’ve never been! And when we poop and pee outside, we get yummy treats! The grass is like one big training pad… or like one big, fluffy rug!

We no longer have tiny rugs inside the house because we had a little too much fun tearing them apart… heh. My Girl and Her Girl said we couldn’t get them back until we learned that they were meant to lay on and not eat. But, it’s okay. There’s plenty more stuff to chew apart! Like our dog bones and our rope toys and our stuffed animals! Our pile of toys are getting bigger and bigger! Our basket is overflowing!

We love to drag around our toys and play tug-of-war with them… but Beanie also enjoys chasing after my tail and grabbing onto it! Everyone thinks that Beanie is so innocent because she is calm and quiet in public, but she loves to get into all sorts of mischief! She chews on things she’s not supposed to, and she is often the one to instigate our play-fights! We’re both good girls, though. Beanie is just better at hiding her excitement when we’re around new friends!

But me? Well, let’s just say there’s a reason that My Girl and Her Girl call me “Crazy Daisy” and why that name has most definitely stuck: I can get very energetic and crazy, and when I’m greeting someone (especially when My Girl or Her Girl come home!) I will get so excited that I’ll jump all over them! The only problem that I have controlling is how much I lick, nip, and paw at faces when I get over-excited! I have been known to give a good head-butt and try to bite one’s nose off. I’m still learning when enough is enough— but, it’s hard because I love everyone so much!

Beanie and I are just cute little bundles of love, love, love! And, although much has changed over the months, that is something that never will!
