The Cane Corso is a large, muscular dog breed from Italy. Known for his high level of intelligence and natural inclination toward protection, he was bred to serve as both a property guard and to hunt large game. The name of the breed comes from Latin: “bodyguard dog.” That’s about all you need to know.

It is a large, physically intimidating breed. They reach from 23 to 28 inches at shoulder height and weigh between 85 and 110 pounds. Their brindle-hued coats short and stiff, exist in a range of colours that include black, grey, fawn, and red, often with brindle patterns. The outline of the head, eye, and muscular build of the dog makes them look very intimidating.

Despite their intimidating appearance, they are very gentle and devoted to their families. Highly intelligent, and eager to please contribute to making them relatively easy to train, especially if started when young, they can be strong-willed and assertive, which does not make them a good choice for inexperienced owners who want consistency and early socialization.

They thrive well in an environment that gives them enough space for running and playing, requiring regular exercise and mental stimulation to avoid developing undesirable behaviours based on boredom. Being a natural guard dog, they’ll do well; however, their protection quality makes them require very good socialization so that they remain civilized around strangers and other animals.

This, therefore, makes the Cane Corso a versatile and loyal companion best suited for owners who can meet its varied physical and training needs. With the right care and attention, they can be such a lovely and watchful member of the family.

Are Cane Corso Agressive?

Cane Corsos are not aggressive dogs, although their protective instincts and territorial attitude may sometimes be misinterpreted as aggression. Fundamentally, they were bred as property and livestock guardians and are, therefore, naturally vigilant about the presence of strangers.

Proper training and socialization from the earliest age determine a well-behaved and balanced dog. Without these, its protective instincts develop into unwanted behaviours. This all begins with setting up the owner as the leader and following through with positive reinforcement.

Although Cane Corsos are assertive, they are also very loyal and friendly with their families. When well guided, they can be excellent companions and protectors, never becoming aggressive.

What Is The Bite Force Of Cane Corso?

A Cane Corso is known to have a very strong bite force estimated to be around 700 PSI. This puts them among the strongest canine breeds regarding bite force, showing both jaw structure and muscular build.

When Does Cane Corso Stop Growing?

Cane Corsos stop growing to their height by approximately 18 months. However, they likely continue to fill out and gain muscle mass up until they are almost 2 years old. Even by the age of 3, some Cane Corsos are still developing and gaining muscle.

How Long Does Cane Corso Live?

In general, a Cane Corso lives between 9 to 12 years. This is almost average for a large breed dog. A lot of factors which would determine how long they can live in health are going to be seen in genetics, diet, and exercise levels, amongst other care-related factors.

How Fast a Cane Corso Can Run?

A Cane Corso can effortlessly run at a speed of up to 30 miles per hour, or 48 kilometres per hour. That’s quite fast, considering how big and muscular these dogs are. Their running speeds may vary according to factors such as age, weight, or physical condition.
