Buddy

I never would’ve guessed what was coming the day my best friend arrived.

My roommate had called me one afternoon and asked if I wanted a puppy, it was the pup of the dog she was about to pickup and adopt. She said i had a couple of weeks to think about it as he was only 3 weeks old, after hanging up I knew that this puppy would’ve been from the same place as the father she was rescuing so I knew if I at least fostered the poor little thing it would change his life for the better. She returned home a few hours later with lucky, a black lab and he was the sweetest guy even after what he’s been through. After meeting lucky I told her to let the owners know I would take in the puppy for a little while at least to foster if they had no where safe for him to go when she said she had a surprise for me, that was when I was handed a 3 week old unwanted puppy and a supply of puppy formula.

I was super excited but terrified at the same time, he was so small that he fit in my hand he was the cutest little blob of furr I’d ever seen so I fell in love at the moment not knowing how much this little guy would change my life. I set up an area for him to sleep and fixed a bottle he was to young to be away from his mother but I don’t think he noticed all that much as long as he got his bottle and all the cuddles he could handle, which he definitely did.

As the days went on and he grew and grew and showed his little personality more and more, he was the most caring little guy I had ever met he was my little buddy. I referred to him as my little buddy so I named my little bud buddy and he definitely owned his new name. A few months went past and we were weened off the bottle and going through the milestones, he looked to me as his mum now and boy did he love his mum. No matter where I was he was always at my side so happy to be apart of any and everything I was doing, no matter how interesting or mundane the situation was he was so content with being involved with what mum’s doing. He made my days that much more exciting just being so keen to learn about everything I was doing which at the time I didn’t know was exactly what I needed. I had been through a lot myself at the time with health problems and mental health I didn’t have much joy in my life and as comforting as it is I was very close to ending it all. Without even trying buddy had changed that though, he loved me without reason and that love was unconditional I owed this little guy the same in return which came so naturally that all the bad stuff just disappeared and was replaced with love and taking care of him.

He was part shae pei and had the little folds looking like he was to small for his skin when he came to me, after a year or so he finally grew into his extra flubber and started to look more like his lab/ridgeback side he was a lot bigger than I thought he’d be. Even though he was a big dude now he was still the sweet little puppy he always was. Buddy took on the role of my side kick, no matter where I was he was always there, making friends with every single person or animal was a top priority as well, everyone loved how much love they get from mr buddy and he loved to give as much love as anyone could handle (probably more than anyone could handle haha) he just made everyone as happy as he was.

I knew how much I had changed his life when I would look over to him at random times and he’d just be staring at me with a look of pure love and contentment that would make my heart melt.

Two years after I got buddy he had become my best friend, my everything buddy was the reason I was still here and made being here so worth it. I got back into singing and realised he had a passion for singing too, every time I would start to sing he’d join in and one day he didn’t just want to sing he kept jumping at me and I had no idea what he wanted, that’s the day I realised this guy loved to dance as well. He would stand in front of me until I would hold him up holding hold his paws for a little waltzing boogy session, he’d wanted to dance without me even teaching him, he was involved in whatever task I was doing and taking it to the next level.

The years I had had buddy was the best years of my life I was as cheesy as it sounds so blessed to have had him in my life. Unfortunately I had to move into a place where I couldn’t take my buddy, literally the hardest thing I’ve had to do was give my little guy to some one else. No matter how good the person was that wanted him I would find faults in every applicant, no one could love him like I could and I was the only thing he knew he loved me so much I felt like I was in every sense letting him down. It broke my heart but I was running out of time, I had only a few days until I had to go when I received a message from one of my good friends who wanted to meet him. She and her daughter were looking for a dog that her daughter could grow up with, they were looking for a dog to just share all their love with and I knew that he would have anything and everything he could ever need. They came to meet him and after only a few minutes my friends daughter and buddy clearly had a connection I couldn’t deny, love at first sight was definitely the case with the two of them and I knew he was going with them that day. It was bittersweet seeing how they connected made me know it was the right place for him but letting him go was heart wrenching I was loosing a good chuck of my heart. We knew in the moment we couldn’t deny that friendship between bud and this little girl and my friend said before anything else was said I can still see him whenever I want to, I was devastated but that made it so much easier.

My life was changed so completely just by chance when I was handed an unwanted puppy that day, buddy, a puppy, taught me things that I never would have dreamed of and he didn’t even know what he was doing, he just loved and loved love in return. I will always have the little guy in my heart he saved my life and expected nothing in return. If you want to know what it’s like to experience love in the purest form I can’t recommend getting yourself an pet more, especially rescuing an animal that hasn’t been given the opportunity to have a great start in this world. Once you see how much joy they bring to your life it’ll be hard to imagine why there are pets who havent been given a chance in this world. Every animal deserves a home filled with love if you are thinking of rescuing a puppy, cat, pet I can promise you you will not regret doing it with what you receive from your animal you will be forever changed but also you will have changed an innocent life by giving it the chance to be loved and safe, what you get from that is irreplaceable.

Get yourself a buddy it will be the best thing to happen to you in every way, I know it did me.
