The Labrador Retriever had been gaining praise and appreciation for its diligent and loving temperament long before the American Kennel Club (AKC) recognized the breed formally in 1917.The Labrador retriever is one fantastic dog. From its humble beginnings as a fishing dog in Newfoundland (no, not Labrador!) in the 1700s to its developing popularity as a hunting breed in England in the 1800s to its current status as a beloved companion, the Labrador retriever is one awesome dog. For the 28th consecutive year, the Labrador retriever was named the most popular dog breed in the United States by the AKC in 2018. The Lab truly is America's dog, as AKC Vice President Gina DiNardo puts it.

1. Always Sports-Ready

As a nod to their heritage as a hunting/fishing breed, Labrador retrievers are categorized as belonging to the AKC sporting group, which means they're willing to retrieve anything—from downed ducks to that Frisbee you unintentionally threw in the bushes.

2. The First Fisherman's Friend

There is no better canine companion than a Labrador retrievers to take with you to the beach if you love swimming because they were bred to help retrieve fish and pull fishing lines to shore.

3.Selfless and Generous

Have you read about the blind Labrador retriever named Norman who followed a drowning teen girl's cries and towed her back to safety? Despite the exceptional nature of the tale, Norman is by no means an outlier because Labs generally enjoy lending a hand.

4. Easy To Train

Labs have been bred to follow human cues and are intelligent but seek a leader. If given the right training and care, they can make very well-behaved pets that can do much more than just "sit," "stay," and "roll over."

5.Have A Nose For Security

Labrador retrievers are frequently used by Customs and Border Protection agencies to find illegal items, particularly plant and animal products that, if brought into the nation, could harm the local ecosystem and the economy. The other popular dog breed used by government organizations is the beagle, which is also a member of the AKC Sporting Group.

6.Good with Children

Because they are such a kind and patient breed, labs make wonderful family pets when properly socialized and trained. They both have a similar sense of adventure, excitement, and love of outdoor play. But just like with any pet, it's never a good idea to leave your kids and your Labrador retriever together unattended.

7.Good With Other Animals

Labs are known to generally get along well with other dogs, especially if introduced as puppies. It's crucial to keep an eye out for aggressive behaviors early on whenever there are changes to your family or pack. Consider meeting an adult dog in a neutral location, like a park, to avoid any territorial instincts.

8. Always Willing To Help

Labrador retrievers have a long history of serving as service animals, whether it is by sniffing out illegal items, serving as sighthounds, or assisting people with daily duties. In the entire world, studies have established that labs make the best guide dogs.

9. Health-wise Labrador retrievers are generally a healthy breed.

Hip and knee dysplasia, as well as vision impairments, are typical diseases that, regrettably, affect the majority of canine breeds as they age. You can anticipate 10–12 beautiful years of companionship with your lab.

10. Your ideal exercise partner

Love to work out? Your Labrador retriever also agrees. Labs are renowned for having a lot of energy and being able to go on and on. In fact, because Labs aren't the best at recognizing when to stop, it's crucial to keep an eye on your dog for overheating or tiredness. However, there is no better dog than the Labrador retriever if you're seeking for a daily companion who enjoys running and playing as much as you do.
