Your Future Self will Thank You
Start doing this and you won't regret it
Doing these things right now will lessen your stress in the future. I'm not even kidding. Taking this matter lightly is the last thing you would want to do.
To use a different title, it would also be named, "Things I wish I started doing in the past". I have experienced these things and now I've come here to let you know in advance so that you won't miss out and waste your time.
1. Stretch Your Body!
You might think that you won't need to do anything, since you don't see the need to do it. But you are 100% wrong. If you don't start stretching now, the pain you will feel in the future will make you want to hit yourself for not starting sooner.
After spending years of sitting down at work and laying down at home, I now suffer knee aches and back pain. Body parts that I thought I wouldn't be able to feel pain actually made me suffer. I am of average weight and I can't kneel down any more than 5 seconds.
Even the smallest form of stretching is useful. Stand up and walk around! Stretch as much as you can and as many times as you can!
You will feel less pain and the old you will be so thankful.
2. Start Cooking!
It's either you struggle to cook and end up wasting your money buying food in the future, or you start learning now and be skilled enough to provide a meal for yourself in the future.
Get a course, learn through YouTube, any thing as long as you learn a thing or two about cooking. Learn together with your friends or family and you will have fun as much as you cook.
Even a small thing that you've learnt through cooking is something valuable that you will need in the future. Be it how to properly use a knife or how to identify what each knife is used for. Small hacks that can make cooking easier or the correct ways to cut up meats.
It will also widen your understanding of cooking and food, in general.
3. Save up your money!
This one is very serious. If you don't keep a percentage of your salary in a savings account, you're gonna be pulling your hair in the future and wonder why you didn't do that.
Inflation exists. Prices in markets always increase. Unfortunately, the rise in minimum wage doesn't exist. And that's why you need to start opening a savings account.
(Speaking of wages, there is an organization called Fight for $15. They aim to raise the wage to a minimum of $15 in all states of America. Learn more here.)
Keeping your money in cash is useless. As I've said, inflation exists. What was once $5 will soon be $20 in the future. So don't keep them under your bed.
When putting your money in a savings account, not only will it help you in case you need money, but it will also earn you some interest. You would earn at least 1% of your savings and the interest will pile on after every year.
It might not look much but hey, you're earning extra bucks without even doing anything.
Most banks offer one and they're the safest by far. But if you want to earn more, there are high yields savings accounts that offer more than 5% of interest.
But be careful when choosing one. Make sure to research about it properly before depositing your money.
4. Make Friends or Meet People Often!
One thing I've learnt from my dad and my sister, is to maintain relationships with your acquaintances.
He can buy an expensive phone with a discount because he has a friend works there. He can repair a phone or watch for free sometimes, because he has a friend working there. He was able to get information on a better quality bicycle because he has a friend that is crazy about bikes.
My sister has friends who share the same interests as her, collecting. She was able to know the best deals of what she is collecting. She was able to learn more than what she knew about the items she collects.
Now, I'm not saying to take advantage of your friends. What I'm saying is, by having friends, you might be able to find something that interests you or find people who are similar to you and you can share your experiences together.
Thanks to his friend, my dad has found a liking with bicycles. He would often buy useful items for the bike, thanks to his friend's recommendations.
I found having friends a hassle thing to do. So I never made any effort to maintain a friendship with anyone. And now, I totally regret that.
So unless they're toxic, keep your friends near you.
Certainly there are many more things that you should do to save you some headaches in the future. But I'll end it here.
A part 2 might come soon so do check it out if you have time. Have a good day!
