Why Not Go For It?

Style A Life You Love

By Erin MoodyPublished 6 years ago 3 min read

Dreams are those things that keep nagging at you when you are attempting to go about your day. Sure, you are living your life in your 9-5 - it's not great but it pays the bills. By Wednesday people are counting down the minutes to Friday and you find yourself sarcastically answering "You know, living the dream" with an eye-roll when someone asks you how you are doing.

But, what if you actually decided to "live the dream"? Actually go for it, all in.

It's not going to happen overnight, it's not going to happen without hard work, but it can happen.

Right now you may be thinking to yourself yeah, but...insert excuse.

I didn't say it would be easy. You are going to have to put yourself out there to make it happen. To be specific, you will need to move out of your comfort zone.

Define Your Dream

The first thing you need to do is have clarity so you know what you are working towards. Think, if you had your dream life, what would you be doing every day?

Consider every aspect that would make you happy. Are you out in the city making connections? Are you at home on the back porch with your laptop? Or are your traveling the country? Do you work for yourself or for a corporation? How much money do you make?

Whatever it is, get clear on it and write it down. This clarity will help you stay focused when you run into challenges.

Everyone's preferences are going to be different, so you need to get super focused on the life you want to live.

One Small Step

What is one small, consistent step you could take today and continue over time? One that will move you towards your goal. Try not to go overboard

For example, if you want to write a book, start a habit of writing 100 words per day. If you want to go back to school to be a lawyer, start looking at potential schools and entry requirements. Want to start your own business? Start brainstorming ideas.

Choose something to get going and then repeat a new small step every single day. It won't seem like much at the beginning, but over time you will see amazing results.

One of my favorite books on this idea is The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy. He lays out the details on how to start small and stick with it to launch yourself into momentum. Your consistent progress is going to fuel the momentum you need to reach your goals.

Keep A Positive Mindset

As you probably realized from the last section, your success isn't going to happen overnight. The best things in life are the Those people you see who somehow seem to show up on the scene like they just started? Look deeper and you will see a ton of work that got them to where they are.

The truth is the time will pass anyway. Why not spend your time making your dreams happen? You owe it to yourself to explore your dreams and share them with the world.

The biggest asset to you reaching your goal is that you don't give up. You are going to run into issues along the way, trust me. But if you learn from those mistakes and pivot based on what you learn, you will win in the end. The only thing that will keep you from succeeding is giving up.

Make yourself proud and go for it.
