Who is DRES tha BEATnik?

Hello everyone. My name is Andre Karim Lett. I am publicly known as DRES tha BEATnik. I am a native of Philadelphia, PA, and a proud resident of Atlanta, GA.!! I call myself an ATLANTAdelphian. I do stuff and do things, some of the stuff I do you may like and some of the stuff that I do you might not like. If you don't like it, I don't care... LOL!! I have a story to tell and I think you're gonna like it. I am a Human Beatboxer, Hip Hop MC, Lecturer, Former U.S. Cultural Liaison to the People's Republic Of China, and The #1 Hip Hop Concert Host in the U.S. I talk for a living and this is the story of How I broke my fear of crowds to take this walk.

Professionally, I've been working in entertainment for almost 25 years. However, I've had a relationship with Music since I was 3 years old. I grew up singing mostly to make my Family happy. In my home I learned how to be a Good Human, my relationship with Music began by sneaking in my Uncle Darrell's room and listening to all of His records. I got introduced to R&B, Soul, Disco, Funk & Blues. From the Radio, I learned Contemporary Classics of the day. Also, in my home, from my Grandmother and Mother, I learned Gospel and Oldies from the '40s, '50s & '60s. I learned Motown & The Sound of Philadelphia. I fell in love with the Education that I was receiving. In school, in class I learned Classical Music from Composers like Beethoven, Brahms & Bach at Lunchtime I learned Hip Hop like Grandmaster Flash, Spoonie Gee, Funky 4+1, The Sugar Hill Gang and Kurtis Blow. I broke out of my shell in School as well taking the Stage for the first time.

When I was 6, I got cast in a production of "The Wizard Of Oz" as Munchkin #3. I had one line "We welcome you to Munchkin Land!!" I practiced that line for weeks watched every TV show that I could watch to figure out how to put emotion into this one line, even watched "The Wizard Of Oz" movie to mimic the Actor that played Munchkin #3, Jerry Maren. I was finally ready. Opening Night came and I was ready. The Play is about to start and the House was PACKED!! I mean Student Body, Faculty, Administrators and Parents, everyone was there. The Play begins and is running smoothly, we get to my scene. The House falls on the Wicked Witch of The East. Dorothy comes out, our cue to come out is here. All of us Munchkins come out to greet Her and Toto. Dorothy says, "Where am I?". Munchkin #1 says, "Munchkin Land!!". Dorothy says, "Munchkinland?!" Munchkin #2 says, "We welcome you to Mun..." "we welcome you to mun..." I messed up my line, I got nervous. The Understudy tried to feed me my line. I got really scared. A murmur started coming from the audience. I looked around the audience, the adults started talking to each other, the students started to just stare and one kid pointed and laughed... at Me. At that point, I noticed that a dark spot grew in my leotards and grew and grew, and then it grew a tail and ran down my leg and a puddle of liquid began to form at the bottom of my left foot. Yes, I urinated in my pants in front of my entire school it was at that point that I called for My Mom. She ran up and took me off the stage and carried me all the way home. I was so embarrassed and ashamed. My Mom did what a Mom should do in that situation... Run a Bath for Me, Let me get clean, help me put on My Pajamas and put me to bed. I promised my Mom on that night as I was going to sleep that I would never let that happen again. From that moment on I have never been afraid of a crowd ever again.
