To the Weary Mom

A Reminder of Your Incredible Impact

By Rachael E ShieldsPublished 3 months ago 3 min read

Dear Mommas,

Your role as a nurturer is nothing short of extraordinary, and it's time you take a moment to embrace the magic you create. Truly, you are the heartbeat of your home. You are the ones coordinating love, laughter, and all the chaos with grace—even on the days when it feels like nothing is going according to plan. Navigating the ups and downs of raising our little ones can be challenging, exhausting, and sometimes overwhelming, but it is also holy work. And I am here to remind you (and myself) of a few things.

First, being: YOU ARE A WARRIOR! A warrior of love, patience, gentleness, endurance, and so much more. Every day you wake up and choose to keep going, to pour yourself out for your family, to try again after yesterday’s rough moments—that is strength beyond measure. The world may not always see the battles you fight in your heart, your mind, or your home, but you and I know them well. You are not “just” a mom, you are a warrior standing on the frontlines of love.

Secondly, we cannot forget to nurture the nurturer! I know, sometimes self-care feels like a mythical unicorn we're all chasing, but seriously, take a moment to recharge. You cannot pour from an empty cup. Now, I’ll be honest—I sometimes find that phrase frustrating, because I think it can sound like self-care alone is the magic solution to the deep, layered, multifaceted challenges of being a mom. And let’s be real, it is not. A bubble bath doesn’t fix a sleepless night or calm the worries in your heart. But I can honestly say, it sure does help! Our Creator designed us to be vessels of love, and taking even a moment to tend to yourself is an act of stewardship over the precious vessel He entrusted to us.

So whether you find peace in meditating over scripture, journaling your prayers, sipping coffee in silence, taking a long walk, soaking in a bubble bath, watching your favorite show, laughing with a friend, or sneaking a guilt-free piece of chocolate while hiding in the pantry—take that moment. You deserve it, and it’s not selfish. It’s fuel for your soul, so that you can keep showing up with love.

Motherhood is undoubtedly a challenging adventure, a ride of emotions and experiences that no manual could ever fully prepare you for. You're not a robot, you’re a rockstar—probably with some sort of sticky substance on your shirt, which came from your child's hands, face, or mystery snack—but still a rockstar nonetheless. Perfection? Forget it. Who even coined that term? Definitely not a mom! Some days we are just making it up as we go, and yet somehow, you are nailing it. Every chaotic day is a testament to your resilience, your strength, and your uncanny ability to find lost toys in the Bermuda Triangle of the living room.

Even the sleepless nights and messy moments—those days when you feel stretched too thin—are opportunities for growth, patience, and unconditional love. Your efforts, even the ones that feel unseen, do not go unnoticed. They ripple out into your children’s hearts and lives, shaping them in ways you may never fully realize.

Oh, the elusive virtue—patience. I know we are all a little short on it, especially when it comes to the endless demands of mom life and negotiating with tiny CEOs who can argue for hours over snacks or bedtime. Just know you are not alone in counting to ten (or twenty… or fifty) and whispering prayers for strength. It’s a hard job we have, but the rewards? Unparalleled! The unprompted "I love you" that comes out of nowhere are enough to melt you. Then there are the sticky kisses, the giggles at bedtime, the tiny fingers wrapping around yours, and those quiet moments when you realize—you are molding future world-changers, one small, ordinary moment at a time.

Be present. The laundry, dishes, and whatever else can wait, and there is no need to stress over it as though it defines your worth. Keep finding the joy in the little things—soak in the laughter, embrace the mess, snap the blurry pictures, and find humor in the chaos. Because in the grand scheme of things, those moments, the perfectly imperfect ones, are the true treasures.

You’re doing the best you can, and that is more than enough. Please don’t forget it. You are fearfully and wonderfully made for this role, chosen for your family, and equipped with love that comes straight from the Father’s heart. The world is brighter, softer, safer, and better because of the love you pour into it.

So take heart, warrior mama. You are seen. You are loved. You are doing incredible things, even on the days that don’t feel so incredible. And never forget—the love you give is a gift this world desperately needs.

Keep on rockin’ momma,

With love <3
