" The wonder before my eyes creates good vibes"
Create your happiness challenge

I love to create mixed media paintings that refer to me moving in a space. The more I make, the more I realize how important movement is and how it reads in the composition of a painting. The series of work I've been exploring has elements of collage: I will often find myself using fiskars scissors to cut paper or wrappers from kombucha bottles and adhere those parts to the substrate. It is important for me to collage because there are certain colors or effects found in paper that I cannot recreate by mixing paint. Each painting begins outside of the studio, either walking or riding my bike by a space that calls to me. I collect visual information, observe frequently which opens a space for conversation with the locale and the feel the energy of that place. After I've finished absorbing and experiencing, I bring the vision to the studio and begin sketching what I saw, and felt.
I spend quite a bit of time in my studio which is located in the Bakehouse Art complex. I've worked there as the preparator/maintenance/ administration for almost 8 years and held a studio there for 2 years. As a local emerging artist I've found it crucial to my practice to be part of an artist community, and engage with other artists for critiques, talk about future ideas or collaborate. We all end up informing each other and help each other grow. The connections I have made because of this residency have helped me push my career towards a successful path, and is continuously allowing me to develop professionally. I've participated in six exhibitions since graduating with a BFA and I've been accepted into two open calls for artists with art in public places. I'm creating new work for an exhibition coming soon at the Bakehouse Art Complex and I'm constantly driven to expand, showing my work in galleries outside of that space.
My work is informed by architectural experiences, encounters, and unusual occurrences within Miami’s urban environment. Evoking a sense of place utilizing a wide array of media, explosive marks, colorful shapes and repeated patterns to create a proliferation of positive and negative spaces.
Each painting is filled with the spirit of sweetness. I’ve always felt that the most truthful form of art is a gift; not in the sense of talent but as a literal gift that keeps on giving. I have witnessed my paintings move my audience to ask more questions, I believe each piece creates a special moment within the viewer who recognizes the neighborhoods I reference.
The core of my artistic practice is fueled by esoteric, philosophical and scientific concepts, relating to how we perceive spaces and alternate realities. My main exploration is visually building up magnetic pathways of the psyche that allow me to uplift the locale through the sensorial experience of paint. Displaying these site-specific abstractions in the public domain on a precise, professional level is the best way that I can redirect positive energy towards others that inhabit these spaces.
In a world where we receive bad news on a daily basis, it is imperative to stay informed and be aware of what is going on. I believe it is equally as important to uplift each other: bringing about positivity, so we can level the playing field that is filled with emotional experiences and put our lives in balance. Over time I realized that the more generous I am with my time, paint, materials, etc that the abstraction builds energy and stores an abundance of power that can bring joy to others. Just acknowledging this part of my work overfills me with joy. I know how to make a beautiful painting, and to render with abstraction puts my work in a whole new ball game. When someone compliments my work, what they're really saying is "Wow, my neighbor has such a beautiful house".
