The Success Dynamic

A State of Mind...

By Gabriela EngelsPublished 4 years ago 3 min read

More often than not, I encounter clients who are fiercely focused on the problems that they find within their Company with very little to no sight beyond that point of view. The perspective is narrowly focused on everything that is going wrong. The emanating message of how they feel is loud and clear and although not always represented with words, everyone hears it. Although there is benefit to seeing things clearly, there is a big difference between identifying an issue and finding that the glass is always half empty despite how hard the employees are working. A successful leader is a solution-based thinker. They can see the issue and the challenges without losing sight of the big picture. Companies need strong leadership. Employees need direction and together the wheel turns successfully. It's always about the solutions not the problems.

I like to view challenges as storms...with the right approach, plan, tools and mind-frame, you can weather the storm. I often hear employers comment on that everyone is expendable except for themselves and although there might be some element of truth to that, unless you're a one-person show, it takes a good team to turn the wheel towards success. On the other hand, I've heard others state that "you are only as good as your team" and there is truth to that as well. The bottom line involves having a clear understanding of what is going on within the Company. For example, is everyone on the Team working at their "highest and best?" Identifying what needs "fixing," forming a plan of action with a solution based approach and then believing enough in your team by allowing them to make it happen is a crucial part of what turns the wheel of success. If the issue is that you don't have a strong team, then my question to you is what key factors did you see in them that propelled you to hire them in the first place? Maybe some training/re-training, change of roles or clear communication of expectations could be what's needed to make the shift. Based on my experience, employees want to please. They want to do a good job. If you think that personnel is the issue, then it requires further exploration into the why...

Running a Company comes with facing challenges every now and then. The challenges may present in the form of personnel, client retention, new business sourcing as well as other potentially influencing factors. Be it what may be, the frame of mind from the top to the layers that trickle beneath starting with the Owner(s), CEO, COO, CFO and through the chain of command as well as every member in between is in large what determines whether or not your team will be the winning team. This is often seen in sports. Two equally qualified teams, but only one takes the leading position to become the winning team. The difference time and time again has everything to do with frame of mind aka "thoughts." The winning team believes that they will win. They believe in themselves and that they have everything it takes to make it happen. They are aligned to the goal, know they are worthy and they are fiercely focused allowing nothing to stand in the way of the desired outcome. Both are equally qualified, apples to apples. The difference is all about the energy - the energy that runs through every member of the team. Nothing is impossible. Change is part of growth and challenges are opportunities. The final message is to align every member within your Company to what you want and believe until you achieve.
