Himi and Niloy’s love story had always been one of beauty and simplicity. They were the kind of couple who could communicate with just a look, their love flowing like a river that never ceased to run. But like all relationships, even their love faced its share of obstacles, and sometimes, pride had a way of sneaking into their hearts.

It all began on a sunny afternoon. Himi, the gentle and patient one, had been planning a special surprise for Niloy. She had spent days organizing a quiet, romantic evening by the lake, their special place, where they had first met. She had picked the most beautiful flowers, arranged a small picnic, and even prepared Niloy’s favorite dish. The evening was meant to be perfect, a symbol of how much she appreciated him.

Niloy, who had been caught up in his work and commitments, failed to notice Himi’s efforts. He was late, much later than usual. Himi waited by the lake, the sun sinking lower and lower into the horizon, and with every passing moment, her heart sank. She had prepared everything, expecting him to be there on time, but he wasn’t. She tried to remain calm, but frustration started to build.

When Niloy finally arrived, he was flustered, apologizing repeatedly. But Himi, unable to hide her disappointment, stood there silently. “You’re late, Niloy,” she said, her voice steady but cold.

“I’m sorry, Himi, I got caught up at work. But it’s okay, I’m here now,” he said, attempting to lighten the mood with a smile.

But Himi couldn’t smile back. She had invested so much time and energy into this evening, and his lateness, his disregard for her efforts, stung deeply. "It’s not okay, Niloy. You promised me you’d be here, and you weren’t. I waited... and waited.”

Niloy, who had been unaware of how deeply his tardiness had affected her, felt a pang of guilt. But his pride wouldn’t let him show it. “I didn’t mean to hurt you. But it’s just a small thing, Himi. We can still enjoy the evening.”

The words felt sharp, almost dismissive. Himi’s heart tightened. She turned away, the tears threatening to spill. “No, Niloy. You don’t understand. It’s not just about tonight. It’s about how I feel all the time—like I don’t matter enough for you to make time for. I don’t think you truly see me.”

Niloy felt a deep ache in his chest, realizing how much he had taken Himi for granted. He reached for her, but she stepped back. The distance between them, both emotional and physical, seemed to grow larger.

Days passed, and their once-perfect love was marred by silence. Niloy tried to reach out to Himi, but her pride stood firm. She didn’t want to forgive him so easily. She needed him to understand the weight of his actions. Niloy, too, struggled with his pride, refusing to admit that he had made a mistake. He convinced himself that Himi was overreacting, that it was just a small misunderstanding. But deep down, he knew it was more than that.

Time dragged on, and each day felt heavier than the last. Himi missed Niloy more than she cared to admit, but her heart still ached from the hurt. She wanted him to apologize, to show her that he truly cared. But Niloy’s pride kept him distant, and it hurt her even more.

It wasn’t until one evening, when Niloy received a message from Himi, that the walls between them began to crack. The message was short, but it cut through Niloy’s pride like a knife.

“I miss you, Niloy. But I don’t think I can keep waiting for you to notice me. I need more than this silence. I need you to see me… truly see me.”

The message hit Niloy like a wave. He stared at the screen, his heart racing. He realized then that love was never about being right or proving a point—it was about understanding, compassion, and letting go of pride.

That night, Niloy went to the lake. He knew Himi would be there, waiting, though he wasn’t sure if she was waiting for him anymore. When he reached the familiar spot, he saw her sitting by the water, her face hidden in her hands.

“Himi,” he whispered softly.

She looked up, her eyes red from the tears she had held back for days. Niloy knelt beside her, his heart full of remorse.

“I’ve been foolish,” he said, his voice trembling. “I was so caught up in my own pride, I didn’t see how much I was hurting you. I’m sorry, Himi. I’ve always seen you, but I was too stubborn to admit it. You matter more than anything, and I should have shown you that.”

Himi’s heart softened as she listened to his words. She had waited for this moment, but it didn’t make her any less guarded. “I needed you to see me, Niloy. Not just as your girlfriend, but as someone who needs your time, your love, and your respect. And I don’t want to be with someone who doesn’t prioritize me.”

Niloy nodded, his eyes filled with understanding. “I know, and I’m sorry. I promise I will never let my pride come between us again. You deserve more. You deserve my everything.”

In that moment, the walls between them crumbled, and the love they shared began to heal. They held each other, the pain of the past few days fading away like the setting sun.

“I’ll wait for you,” Niloy whispered as he kissed her forehead, a promise of forever.

And as they stood together by the lake, hearts united, they knew that love wasn’t always easy. But with forgiveness, understanding, and letting go of pride, love always found a way back home.
