Wishful Thinking
I lost my job about a month ago. I should’ve known it was coming because my ideas were better than my supervisors, so he felt I was trying to take his job. It also didn’t help that I stood up to my coworkers when they would try to take advantage of me. Call me a perfectionist, I loved the details in my work, but being fired should’ve been a relief for me since I hated my job. There was a calling on my heart, a yearning in my soul to not be sucked into the rat race of life that was completely unfulfilling for me. All the previous generations in my family worked day in and day out and had nothing to show for it. I refused to live like that, but here I was settling into dead end jobs where ego was always at play.

The Power of the Written Word
It was golden hour and Nora was getting restless. She blew a strand of her not quite straight, not quite curly honey colored hair out of her eyes as she sunk into the plushy love seat in the guest room at her grandmother’s house. The shadows of the paned windows made squares of orange light on her white hoodie. At least it was white at some point, now it was dull grey with faded doodles Nora had drawn with various types of pens when she was bored. It was her favorite. She wore blue jeans with one knee poking out with a sharpie drawn smiley face. She looked over at Lilly, who was perfectly content sitting on the four poster bed with a book.

Paradise Falls
Paradise Falls When I first saw the black book in the mail, I didn’t know what I was getting. All I saw was the twenty thousand dollars buried in the coffin. I thought about the dollars pouring over me, but I didn’t know what it would cost. That it would cost me everything. I frantically flipped through the black book pages and I read the rules. Their were Eight rules I had to fallow to keep the money or id lose my life. The first rule is to quit your job. The second rule was to give up your dreams. The third rule was to make new ones for a year. The fourth was to find happiness every day. The fifth was to not tell anyone about the book as it was being written. The sixth rules was to save six people. Seven was to touch a cloud. Eighth was the hardest, I had to make a masterpiece. I thought deeply on this, how I could make a masterpiece. The premise felt impossible and I felt the gravity of the situation immediately like a fissure pulling me in. I knew there was only thing I possibly could do to make a masterpiece. I looked over to my laptop in the left corner of the room. As I walked over and grabbed it, it felt heavier like Mjolnir. It was like God putting his hand on my shoulder and showing him the way. I felt stupid trying to win anything. I had never won anything before. I couldn’t help but to at least put my fears and anxiety aside and try to fix my life. By typing this story I would slowly becoming who I wanted to be. Someone I thought I could never be. If I completed this list I could keep all of the money but if I didn’t Ieould lose it all. I frantically started to work on this Black Book. I already had so many projects so many things I needed to do. My life was a dumpster on fire and it felt that way constantly. I hoped that this would be the end of that. I put my fingers to the keys and I began to play my symphony.

Windfall
My head was resting forward against my clasped hands when the woman released the gold latches off her black leather briefcase. I pressed my lips into a subtle kiss for the prayers I held within my palms when she lifted one side open, turning it slowly to reveal to me a lump sum of tightly bound one-hundred-dollar bills that were kept inside. I could smell the fresh print of them; they were crisp and green as the grassy hillsides of Dolores Park. It was the one place in San Francisco where I would often dream…watching my ideas fly past me, wishing I’d somehow come across such a windfall like this—and there it was, all right in front of me…

A Brother's Bond
I am not my brother. I have spent my life studying to be a doctor, but I was never as skilled as he is. He was the number one medical professional his first year while I struggled to find a job in a decent hospital. I have always had the luck to count on his advice to help me in a pinch, but I am not that lucky anymore.

The Little Black Book
It was my second business attempt and my last $15,000. I had invested in a beautiful upscale office space in the Atlanta, Georgia area. I was starting my own clothing brand M.A.D.A.M.E. I had planned to have a re-grand opening in a few weeks. Around noon I received a call from my attorney, explaining he had missed the fact that the property had a lien on it from some years ago in the amount of $75,000 and that Mr. Rutherford may have withheld some information from me but he hadn't been able to reach him by phone or emails.

The Notebook
We’d been married ten years and Janie still believed in me. That’s why I didn’t tell her the truth: that my meeting wasn’t on the executive floor of the publisher’s office, but in a café down the street. It was the café where we’d met when I was an upcoming editor at a successful magazine, writing my great American novel at night, and she was a junior editor at Vogue. Now she was senior management and I wrote ‘contributing articles’ for anything that paid. The great American novel was on the backburner and had been for years.

Lock in a thick, brick wall
Again, I found myself standing in my pyjamas on a Saturday morning staring at the brick wall. My eyes were still squinted, yearning for their prior state of sleep but I knew that today was the day. Today had to be the day. There would be no going back to bed this morning. I headed downstairs to the kitchen and flicked the switch on the kettle, pouring a heaped spoonful of coffee in the cafetiere and putting two slices of bread in the toaster. As I waited for the morning machines to fulfil their purposes, I looked around at the half painted kitchen and semi-built flat pack table. I should be getting on with putting the rest of my new house together, I thought but for some reason the only thing my mind could focus on was the lock in the thick brick wall of my new bedroom.
