Up the Down Staircase of Perspective
“If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.” – Wayne Dyer As an art technique, perspective is used by the artist to draw what appear to be solid objects with three-dimensional depth on a two-dimensional surface, such as paper or canvas or even the side of a building. It pulls the viewer into an art piece and represents an object’s height, width, and depth to create the illusion of “real dimension” on a flat surface.

Soak Up The Sunshine
Here in Australia, it's that time of the year where the days continue to get shorter, and the nights continue to get longer. As we head deep into April, and the middle of Autumn, the warmth from the sun begins to soften, and the crispness of the cool air swirling up from the Antarctic starts to take over. Due to the location of where I live here in Tasmania, and it's distance away from the Equator, the nights start to become considerably longer than the days, leaving us with just 9 hours of daylight, and 15 hours of nighttime, come the middle of the approaching Winter. Those in such countries as Alaska have even significantly less daylight again, during their Winter. Personally, I love Winter. Other than the difficulty of prying myself out from inside the warm sheets of my bed, on a freezing cold morning, I just love the beauty of the surrounding snow capped mountains, and the pleasantness of the cool Winter days. I always like the fact you can at least rug up and get warm in the Winter, but there's only so many layers you can take off in the scorching Summer heat, hence my love for Winter. I'm not a fan of sweating, although I do love daylight savings that comes with the whole Summer package. There's one troubling thing though about this time of the year though, and for the following six months ahead, and that is the fact that we do obviously lose the luxury of having that ample sunlight that we are treated to in the Summer months. It means we also lose the opportunity to get some much needed vitamin D for our body to absorb. Because of daylight savings in the Summer months, we can get outdoors before and after work, even on our lunch breaks, and soak up that sun on our skin, but it's a different story in Winter.

Astral Projections
Too often in this fast paced world we get bombarded every day by a whirlwind of information. On many levels, we experience such an onslaught of data that our minds are constantly working overtime. I rush to complete my to do lists, and often don’t or can’t do just that. Frustration and dis-ease contribute to the strain of my already overloaded system. While being caught in the fray of the day, my tensions begin to build within the confines of my mind. I find it hard to quiet the many tracks of thought that are buzzing in my head: I forgot to pick up…, I need to…, does he like me…, what is the meaning of life…. and so on. One friend called that white noise in your head the monkey chatter.

Vaporizing the Grumpies
I was on the ferry this morning, heading toward the mainland and feeling kind of grumpy. Well, really grumpy actually. The boat was running super late due to the ferry crew performing practice emergency drills at the dock – some kind of MARSEC training that put the crew into a pretend tizzy in the event of a credible security threat. I know that I should have felt grateful that the ferry cared enough about such a possible eventuality, but I wasn’t.

The Symphony of Life
The mind often bounces around from thought to thought aimlessly, whether we are conscious of these drastic, impulse movements or not. It's almost as though these thoughts arise from within us and are most of the time uncontrollable as to what filters through our stupendous psyche.

Deep Reflections
Well, there’s nothing like that song that just transports you to meditative mecca. The world is a busy place, so many things vying for your attention, a mental over drain, so naturally we find ourselves retreating to the recluses of headphones, where our ears become gateways to an escape and a refocus, provided by yours truly, the sweet sound of music.

Sounds of Silence
Yesternight my dreams played for a lifetime and longer still. I had a great vision of swimming leagues beneath the ocean, where strange and shadowy creatures cruised my flanks. A viciously-fanged great serpentine beast in the form of a moray eel but with the ridged, glistening scales of a viper – violet, green, and bright blue - stirred the waters, menacing but beautiful. And all around me were other people, strangers I’m sure, all lost in that fathomless twilight and frozen in the wake of the serpent beast that threatened but never attacked. Then suddenly came the sense that my breath was fast leaving me, and I started on a desperate surge to the distant surface. Below pursued the serpent. It gained closer and closer with every tail swipe, but the strength left my arms and my motion slowed and staggered, breath spent and body hanging still in the twilight, hopelessly suspended above the jaws of the serpent. Then light! Warm and subtle light. Though my lashes were still leaden; though every fibre and sinew was still stubborn to the call of the new day, I rose with a prodigious yawn and stretch, the instreaming of air radiating as a tingle far into the farthest reaches of my body: arms, legs, fingertips, toes – all gradually teased alive.
