Growing Out
So there I was, 11 years old, opening night of “Oliver!” at my primary school. I can still remember the excitement…the nerves! I was playing Mrs Sowerberry, the undertaker’s wife. Not exactly the main part but I had lines, and even a duet with my “husband”! A comical role of sorts with slapstick, a cockney accent and a Victorian style costume to boot. School plays provided me with some of the best memories of my life. And yet, as soon as I turned 18 and began University, I didn’t pursue anything dramatic ever again. That is, until I was 26 and decided I should have a hobby…

To Take the Long Road
Most might ask the question, “What do you mean by Take the Long Road? And in what context?”. That is something I’ll answer straight away. I suppose what I mean is, don’t settle. Don’t do what is easiest, that which doesn’t sit right, but is the option that takes the least effort. When we have a bad feeling, or a bad vibe, we should pay attention to it. If anyone has listened to the Chimp Paradox by Professor Steve Peters, they will know what I mean when I say that the bad feeling is our natural, primitive instinct sensing a threat or a danger to us. Now, whatever that danger might be, whether your safety, your health or even your mind is in danger, taking that easy road could damage your mental health. That bad vibe is something we need to listen to.

My 10 Year Plan for the Future
Hopes for the Next 10 Years I have quite a few serious hopes I would love to be fulfilled within the next ten years. They all start with getting the most secured health insurance plan that wouldn't cost me an arm and a leg to pay for and help me get all the care I need with my autoimmune deficiency. Then I'd love to get financially stable so I wouldn't have to worry about having a roof over my head, food in my fridge, and clothes on my body. But, that would all mean I'd have a really good long-term job; it's not easy getting anything when you have no high school diploma, GED, college degree, or any other kind of proof of higher education. I also hope to gain a few friendships somewhere along the way, some long and some short, just enough so I'm not stuck with family all the time... Family can be nice and all but, after a while, I need some fresh blood in my social circle. And there's nothing more than wishing for my cat to live a good long life, at least 18 years—she's too special for me to lose sooner than that.

When All Your Friends Are Kicking Post-Grad Life's Ass and You're Like... Not
You graduated. Maybe it was a couple years ago. Maybe it was a couple months ago. Well, pat yourself on the back pal, because regardless of where you're at in your career, you deserve to feel good about actually surviving those years of late-night, caffeine-fueled crams, super intimidating this-is-half-your-grade-so-don't-fuck-it-up-or-you-fail presentations, weekly tests in ALL of your classes, annoying group projects, million-paged research papers, constant pressure to be involved in clubs and such, actually being involved in said clubs, subjecting your stomach to the barely-passable-as-food caf selections, and OH YEAH, somehow finding a balance between all of that and being a decently social human with a life outside of academics.

Getting Out of Your Comfort Zone
Try something new. I have never been the best at writing and right now I am struggling to find words on what to say, but something has always driven me to enjoy the art of writing. I have always been big on reading and can often finish a whole book in one night if I put my mind to it. As a little girl, I would try writing and posting on an app called "Wattpad" where regular people (just like myself) can post stories or poems or anything they had a desire to write about. Whenever I would begin to write a story, I would doubt my ability to write and got discouraged because my stories were horrid compared to others.

I'm Rich. Top Story - June 2018.
I’ve been fortunate enough to visit a few other countries in my life. I love seeing other people speak their mother tongue, eat food that’s strange to me, see centuries-old architecture. Most of the time when I travel, it’s pretty laid-back and my thoughts swirl around a certain cathedral or the intricacies of bagged milk (looking at you, Canada). But every now and then I visit a place that, for better or for worse, makes me feel rich.

I Believed in Dreams
Earlier today, on my Facebook feed, there was a meme that was asking it's readers, "What was the dumbest thing you believed in as a kid?" People were posting silly things, like Santa Claus, that sharks were in the deep end of the pool, monsters in the closet... I didn't post a response to that post. I didn't want to bring down the levity of the post, but I was going to say that I believed that my dreams could come true.

Leadership Choreography
I came into leadership honest. It’s, seemingly, just in my genetic makeup. I played team sports growing up year-round. I typically found myself in places where I was seen and heard. Growing up, if you find yourself in those situations, you end up thinking that’s all there is to it. There’s this sort of prideful privilege to your walk and talk.

When Going Up, Don't Look Down
Why is it when we work toward our dreams and goals, it seems like they are so far away? What can we do to reach those goals and dreams without feeling like we are only taking steps backward? People always tell me: just stay positive and good things will come to you. However, as we all know, that is easier said than done, right? I am hopeful that things will just work themselves out, regardless of how hard I am working. What goals and dreams do you have? Maybe you just don't have the right help in accomplishing them because you haven't looked at all of the angles. I try my best to look at the big picture and figure out what I will need exactly in order to accomplish my goals and dreams, whether they are short term or long term. So, what do you need to accomplish yours? Who will you ask for help? How can you help yourself?
