Find What Works For You
I've never been good at organizing or cleaning up. Up until a few days ago there was still a pile of laundry begging to be put away and a desk cluttered with makeup supplies. Listen, we all can't be Marie Kondo. Although I highly recommend watching her videos. As I rifled through my closet, putting away that aforementioned pile, I realized that I hadn't looked at most of that stuff in years. Old clothes, shoes, and accessories that I never wore or lets be honest wore too much. I thought of a way to dedicate my day to refreshing my closet and my room. If the lack of organization skills were not enough, the lack of motivation was surely it.

When Spring Lives in an Incubator
It’s Monday morning, and the sound of bells ringing greet me as I walk onto the unit. While there can be quiet days, neonatal intensive care is rarely silent. Nursing handover ends by 7:30am, and at 8:00am tired eyes and expert hands begin the process of feeding their charges. Soft cries from each passing incubator bring a smile to my face; soon, lovelies, your tummies will be full.

Spring Forward and Onward
“Be regular and orderly in your life, so that you may be violent and original in your work.” -Gustave Flaubert Looking up at the night sky at the beginning of Spring, seeing stars and distant galaxies, there appears to be order from afar, but certainly chaos up close; the story of my life. It wasn’t that long ago that I realized that I am merely a welcomed guest in this universe, and was given the opportunity, by chance, to be able to exist and enjoy its scenery and provided with a brain to help unravel its mysteries; I suppose it’s up to me to decide what type of guest I am going to be. This is a question I can’t help but ask myself far too often.

How to Clean As Things Are Falling Apart
I don’t even wait for spring to start. I’m not a fast cleaner (or a cleaner on most days) so I try to do this when the new year starts approaching. I start cleaning little by little each day so that when the new year (or season) comes by, I’ve organized and cleaned my room and things in time to start fresh. I used to have more energy to organize for whole days but these days when I’m just trying to get by, I do just a little at a time. We’ve mostly been cooped up these days at home due to the pandemic so it’s also good to reorganize things to give yourself a new perspective on things and life.

What Do Colors Mean
What do colors mean? Why are we drawn to them? Are they like a spirit animal? All of these are great questions. Time and time again colors have been shown to be a sign, meaning, and represent something of significance. I have been home for the past week, and I keep seeing the color green. Almost like when you see the angel numbers that come in threes. Yes, I know anywhere you look one can see any color they want. This is true, but what color is drawn to you. This week I have been seeing the color green, it appears in many things. For example, today at the grocery store the first box of tissues I got were green, a stone I was drawn to was green, and my jacket had green sticky beads on it (I did not put these on my jacket).

Clear the Space
The pants with the tags still attached, the friend who only calls to complain, the “junk drawer," the hidden mysteries beneath the kitchen sink, the job that spins you into an existential crisis daily, the looping thoughts that stop you from setting up your online shop: WHATEVER it is making you feel like Bill Murray in Groundhog Day, Spring presents the perfect time to get organized and create space for new things. To get those dormant organizational juices flowing again, I’m sharing a few tricks of my own trade, sprinkled with wisdom nuggets from some of the world’s greats.

Whistle while You Work
We all have that friend who's super organized and has a box with a description on it for everything. They meal prep for a whole week, they clean their home every night before they go to sleep. There are never dishes in their sink and it seems like everything in their house has its place.

Spring Mindfulness
Spring is a time for rejuvenation. I’ve always considered this time to be the “New Year,” of another year to be fulfilled. Its the season of birds coming home, animals waking up from hibernation, and humanity getting out of that unwanted winter funk. It’s the season of the first Zodiac, Aries, to be awoken for another month, and year of getting things done and organized. As an Aries myself, this is the time when I feel most focused and able to really get myself back on track. Especially in the year of 2021, I welcome it with open arms.

Outlandish Blends
As a child my father encouraged me to read, and it became one of my greatest loves. What I discovered early on that there was no more thorough way to tell an intricate tale than a good book. There’s no wonder to me why some of the best television series and movie titles are based on intricate source material. If you love storytelling and storytellers then there’s nothing more important than the details. When I pick a new show, the chances I’ll truly love the story increase exponentially if the script is based on an excellent series of novels first. There’s nowhere to hide inside of a written story; every word must shine.

How To Help The Helpless
Of course I'm talking from experience. Otherwise, how could I know the basics of what it feels to be completely and utterly helpless. As you know, there is an art in helplessness and it's called The Art of Helplessness. (seriously) By the way, you can't just know about this art without Being this art. Neither, you can read it in books or it be taught in a course. This incredible and imposible art you have to live it, breath it, and feel it creeping into your mind like the monster hiding inside the closet or under your bed or else. Once you know your demon, you drag it out of the dark and look at it deep into his eyes. Once face to face with your worst nightmare, the moment will decide if you are an artist or another fraudster.

My most important tip I’d give my 16 year old self
“It’s okay to fail, because through failure you will learn what you really want to achieve in life.” I didn’t know what I wanted to be when I was growing up in London. I'd hear stories of people saying they knew what they wanted to be in this world from the age of four. “I wanted to be a journalist” or “I wanted to be a fire-fighter” was often the answer. My own mother periodically told me that “you'll only be successful if you are a doctor or a lawyer”.
