Something small, big impact

How a homeless man has been saved

Something small can give a big or bad impact on you

It was just an ordinary day for Me. I had woken up early, as I did every day, and got ready for work. I had a cup of coffee and a slice of toast for breakfast and then headed out to catch the bus.

I had been working as a doctor for the past ten years. I loved my job and found it rewarding, but also emotionally draining at times. Today was going to be a long day, as I had to work the morning shift and then stay for an extra few hours to cover for a colleague who was off sick.

As I was waiting for the bus, I noticed a homeless man sitting on the pavement, holding a cardboard sign that read "Please help me." I felt a pang of guilt as I realized that I had never really thought much about the homeless before. I had always been so busy with my own life that I never really took the time to consider the struggles of others.

As the bus arrived, I hesitated for a moment, wondering if she should stop and give the man some money. But I was already running late for work, so I reluctantly boarded the bus and took my seat.

The rest of the morning went by in a blur. I was busy attending to patients and keeping up with my paperwork. But the image of the homeless man stayed with me, and I couldn't shake off the feeling that I should have done something to help him.

As I finished up my shift, I made a decision. I would go back to the spot where the homeless man was sitting and try to help him in some way. I quickly changed out of my uniform and headed back out onto the street.

When I reached the spot where the homeless man had been sitting, he was no longer there. I looked around, but he was nowhere to be seen. Just as I was about to give up and head back home, I heard a faint cough coming from behind a nearby dumpster.

I cautiously approached the dumpster and peered around the corner. There, lying on a pile of cardboard boxes, was the homeless man. He looked up at me with tired eyes and a weak smile.

"Are you okay?" I asked, concerned.

The man nodded weakly. "I'm just a bit under the weather," he replied.

I knew that I couldn't leave the man there in that condition. I quickly called an ambulance and waited with him until it arrived. As they loaded the man onto the ambulance, I felt a sense of relief that he was finally going to receive the care he needed.

Over the next few weeks, I couldn't stop thinking about the homeless man. I visited him in the hospital a few times, bringing him food and supplies. As I talked to him, I learned that he had fallen on hard times after losing his job and his home. He had no family or friends to turn to, and he had been living on the streets for months.

I was touched by the man's story, and I knew that I had to do something to help him. I spent countless hours searching for shelters and programs that could assist the homeless in the area. I even started a fundraising campaign at my workplace to help raise money for the local homeless shelters.

As time went on, my efforts started to pay off. I saw the impact of my actions not only on the homeless man but on others in the community. My colleagues and friends started to get involved in my fundraising campaign, and more and more people started to take notice of the issue of homelessness in their city.

Years later, as I looked back on that small moment in my life, I realized how much it had impacted me. That one decision to help a homeless man had changed the course of my life, inspiring me to do more for those in need and to make a positive impact.
