Some Young People's Priorities Have Changed And They No Longer Want To Be Millionaires
Many young people are disenchanted: they ask for more stability and less money from life
Until a few years ago, the dream of being a millionaire was something everyone fantasized about. Since childhood the game of Monopoly gave great expectations to reach that goal, but now and more after this turbulent year, the priorities seem to be changing and many young people are taking care to say it loud and clear.
That if being rich gives happiness, that if money and saints make miracles, then yes, having the coffers full and everything resolved gives a lot of tranquility, why are we going to deny it? But going through two crises and a pandemic is not just anything.
This can cure anyone, and if the millennials already understood something about crises, now Generation Z is joining their black panorama.
It is not surprising that if you leave this 2020 with health and work, you can no longer ask anything more of life, as if to have in mind being millionaires!
And the fact is that being aware that the panorama that is presented is black and that the indicator of youth unemployment all around the world is growing, really does not encourage one to want to fantasize about much more unattainable things.
It seems that stability is what some young people value most, or so a Twitter thread indicates: "Having economic stability in these times and a structured life is a real luxury”.
With this explanation of what young people are looking for now and, it is not among their goals to be millionaires, a debate has been opened in which everyone has wanted to intervene to explain that Mark Zuckerberg is no longer among their references.
What he tells them now is to be able to live in peace. No cars, no mansions, is there less materialism? It seems that there is because "having a garden, a kitten and stability", is what this tweeter values most and the rest have applauded it.
"Stability is what we are looking for"
Although the coronavirus is affecting the whole of society, the situation of young people is especially dramatic.
For the millennials this scenario is not so alien, they began with an economic crisis and their life projects were shaken and when they began to recover another one has come back to hit them full force.
The other generations have suddenly found themselves (like everyone else) with a pandemic and the greatest economic-sanitary crisis ever seen, the mantra of 'lost generation' now extends to them.
The precariousness of jobs (in the case of those who have), the difficult access to housing are a very difficult situation to start with and to that we must add the unemployment that is causing the pandemic.
That's why they defend themselves from those who call them "conformists" and explain the needs they have.
Since the beginning of the contagion, a lot of jobs have been lost. Fifty-three percent were under 35 years old. And that, without having yet managed to earn what other generations were already earning at their age.
So it is not surprising that there are some changes in the way of living life and in this animals and nature have an important role.
From "more emotional stability", "exchanging cats for dogs", some add video games to the aforementioned pack are some of the answers that have emerged from this vindictive tweet.
There are also those who do not want to give up both things. Why can't one live in peace and with money? Not everyone wants to give up the idea of being a millionaire at some point and, although the needs of the situation are changing, there are motivations that do not go away so easily.
The truth is that the concept of stability does not mean the same for young people as what their parents understood by this and that for them living from day to day and based on dreams is what they are getting used to.
That there is an orchard and a cat among their plans? That for them is the beginning of a stable life!
