Spandana is a reputed entrepreneur who started her business from very small to grow very big. After routine introduction, Deepa asked Spandana, how did she become a business woman and what is her success story.
Spandana started narrating the story of her success.

"People say if one must live, one can live selling peanuts also. Spandana exactly started her business selling peanuts.
Spandana was a girl from below middle-class family. She lost her father when she was eight years old. Since then, her mother had been the bread winner for the family.
While Spandana was studying B.Tech on scholarship, at one point of time she had no money to pay for hostel and for her maintenance and that year her scholarship was held up due to non-release of funds from government.
She must pay approximately Rs.30000 for college fee and hostel as well. She could not ask her mother for money since she knew the family situation. Her mother was a daily waged laborer.
Spandana always reminds herself that she must become a software engineer and settle in a big way and make her mother live happily.
Spandana was worrying much to resolve the problem of her getting 30k.How to earn the money without bothering her mother.
Whole day she spent thinking about getting the money. While sitting in a nearby park, she saw a boy selling groundnuts. She took a packet of nuts by paying ten rupees. She enquired with the boy about his incentive on each packet. He replied, he would get one rupee on each packet, and he could sell at least 200 packets a day.
She got a flash in her mind and questioned herself, “why should I not start doing something."
She went to her room. She assessed the expenditure and income of a small business and decided to go ahead. She worked out to execute what she thought.
She borrowed thousand rupees from a close friend of her, promising to repay in a month and decided to start her earning for target amount of Thirty thousand rupees.
Spandana 's plan was to sell groundnuts.
Spandana chose a public meeting which was going to be held by a political group on the second day, to start her business.
She bought five kilo groundnuts of good quality @ 150 rupees per kilogram and requested her mother to bake them on the pan.
She took old newspapers and made rolled pockets, filling with nuts each measuring 20 grams. 5kg nuts were made into 250 packets each of 20 grams and she set them up in a big bag. She decided to sell the packet @ Rs.10 each so that she could earn Rs.2500.
She carried with her, few papers, a folding table, a cash bag, water bottle for self, Lunch Box enough for two persons and a placard showing "’Groundnuts packet’ one for 10 rupees."
She employed a boy to accompany her and to help her.
They reached the meeting place one hour before the meeting started, traveling by bus.
The organizers of the meeting mobilized good number of people.
Spandana chose the location at the entrance of the meeting place. She spread the table open and held her ground nuts bag to sell the packets. She fixed the Placard near by showing rate per packet.
Spandana was good looking and stylish with jeans and tops. Her pleasing local language with mix of English and well-behaved personality attracted enough customers who came to attend the meeting.
Few of them while interacting with her came to know that she is a B.Tech student and doing part time for her college fee. This gained her quick and easy business. At the same time her behavior never let them think low about her.
Within 3 hrs., she could sell out all the packets. She had her lunch with the boy.
She gave two hundred rupees to the boy for helping. She returned home.
When she evaluated the day business, as expected by her, she could earn Thirteen hundred profit after all her expenses were gone. She could pick up confidence and she thought, it is not a big thing to earn 30k in a month.
She searched out in newspapers for meetings and chalked out meeting schedules near and far to attend and decided to execute the business with some improvements and adding few other products for sale which would be hygienic and saleable.
She bought carrots from market and cleaned properly. Each carrot is cut nicely into 10 pieces and packed to sell. She also carried water packets to sell. She took help of two boys to carry items and to support. She increased her investment.
She maintained dignity and showed humbleness apart from clean display of items.
She could surprisingly earn her 30k within 10 public meetings. After paying fee and other expenses, she thought of continuing the same further. She focused more on business than her graduation.
She earned 6 lakhs by the time she completed her B.Tech graduation.
Now she tasted success of Business. She could also have her own investment. Within her savings she planned to extend business with her innovative thoughts. She never overspent and started saving the returns in fixed assets. The assets increased her net worth.
She employed few hard-working loyal persons whom she paid good salary. They also became good supporters to her business.
She focused on business of eatables from raw food, made from fruits and vegetables. She collected material directly from farmers. She sold preparations through mobile shops.
She engaged village women for material preparation and packing. She chose big marketplaces where more gathering takes place.
She set goals year on year and after 10 years she became a big entrepreneur.
Spandana took a pause and told the TV anchor Deepthi, " This is my journey of business and it's my success story". Everybody in audience gave a big clapping.
One participant from the Show asked Spandana," How about your dream of Software engineer "
Spandana replied with a smile," End of the day what and how best you are doing is the question. 80 to 100 members are employed with at least 15k to 25k salary for each. Big premises is set up and vehicles are purchased for mobile shops. Hygienic business is done with good customer service. Lot of farmers are directly benefitted with reasonable returns for their cultivated products.
Little Social service and more self-satisfaction. What else is required"
The show ended up with overwhelming appreciations to Spandana.
