Wonderful Granddaughter ( Story )

Vasishta was an accountant in a Central government office. He retired at 60 years from his profession. He was known to be an honest and wonderful human being. Department showed respect by giving a great farewell.

Vasishta has a son who got married an understanding lady and they have a daughter named Nithya, of 12 years. Vasishta's son is also an employee.

After retirement Vasishta thought of bringing out his inner talent. Vasishta is an artist. He does modern painting.

Painting on village life, is his basic theme. First audience for his work, are ‘his family members. Particularly his granddaughter Nithya likes him the most.

She also likes the way he teaches many things to her. She became the best audience to him.

Vasishta thought of focusing more on his painting works and make them popular. Therefore, he opened a YouTube channel to post his paintings.

He posted his one beautiful and thematic painting in YouTube for the first time.

That night he could not sleep. He repeatedly saw the video and searched for any comments. Only 20 likes, 4 subscriptions and 5 comments are seen in a weekdays time.

He was upset and got disappointed. He was quietly roaming in the courtyard, biting his nails like a child. His face was gloomy, and voice was feeble. His answers were brief and short, sometimes even only nodding the head if anybody talked to him.

Nithya is a bubbly girl. She always tries to make him laugh telling mischievous activities of her school mates. For Vasishta she is the best source of pastime.

Nithya found his grandfather keeping calm and upset. She thought of relieving him from his stress. She patted him saying “Grandpa, don't worry slow and steady wins the race' you will get good number of viewers for your painting. Believe my words.” He got surprised for her patted words.

After 2 days, as a routine Vasishta saw his video. Surprisingly he found 900 subscriptions and good number of comments for his painting. The number is doubled in the next couple of days.

Vasishta became ecstatic. He called his family members and showed them the comments and said, “I got good number of likes for my painting and viewers gave wonderful comments. I am surprised about this flooded response like how all these have come over night.” He was overwhelmed with joy. His granddaughter wrapped his neck with her hands and showed her affection by kissing on his cheeks.

In the night, Vasishta was walking in the corridor of his house after his dinner and Vasishta’s son was talking to his wife in the drawing room. Nithya was sitting beside her mother. He said, “I never saw my father being so happy. After my mother passed away, his world was only his office and on very few occasions he was openly laughing with anybody. He used to spend his time painting pictures. But today, his heart is filled with joy. We must thank the viewers; they made his day.”

Nithya spinning her eyes at her father said,” Dad, can I tell one secret of how so many viewers could view it?” “What secret?” He raised his eyebrows with a puzzled look.

“Dad, during our Prayer time in my school I appealed everybody that, my grandpa painted a beautiful picture and posted in You Tube, everyone had to like it and give comments also. After I spoke, one of our teachers saw that painting in my mobile and explained everybody the theme of it. Everyone clapped after she explained, and they told in unison that they give comments in YouTube.”

“Wow great job!” her father patted her.

Nithya said,” They also shared it to their other friends from different schools and from them also likes and comments came for painting.”

Oh! Very big campaign is done!” he exclaimed.

“But, Dad, I got good compliments from everybody for having such a great Grandpa.

I felt very proud when they were praising me.” Her eyes glowed with happiness.

In the meantime, her grandpa stepped into the room. He heard what Nithya told to her father. His eyes filled with water. He said with shaking voice, “You are such a wonderful girl, God gifted you to me for my good services done all these years. He hugged his granddaughter and gave a warm kiss on her forehead.
