Obliterate Self-Limiting Beliefs in 4 Simple Steps

Unblock your mind to reach your full potential.

By Ambi AmbitionPublished 7 years ago 3 min read

Somewhere along line, we fell asleep with our childhood dreams and awoke with the mindset of our parents; the hype of our deepest passions got crushed in the rubble of adulthood. As each day progresses, we find our thoughts wander to the what-ifs of chasing those old desires, but we stop them from unfolding, by telling ourselves all the reasons it wouldn’t work or that we’ll get around to it eventually. We put limits on what we are capable of.

Our beliefs affect how we see reality and therefore if your beliefs are weighing you down, you will be held back from all you’re meant to do because that’s the idea you’re feeding. The mind constantly seeks validation in what it believes to be real; not only will it find things to build upon that, it will eliminate anything that doesn’t fit the mold, leaving you lost in assumptions that aren’t necessarily true.

Here’s the thing. If you don’t change something about your life today, you’ll be living the same life every day, over and over again. In order to live your best life, you need to refocus your mind by removing self-limiting beliefs. Do you want to take on life with confidence and empowerment? Here’s where to start.

What’s holding you back?

The only person that can crack the code is you, so you need to be completely honest about what’s hindering your personal growth. Look at the excuses and the doubts you tell yourself daily. It’s not just what you’re saying, it’s the emotion in them, what lies beneath them. That fear dwelling in the depths of those thoughts, that’s what’s limiting you. It’s not that you can’t speak in public, it’s how you feel powerless in making an impact. It’s not the broken heart that scares you away from love, it’s the false idea that you’re not worthy of being unbroken.

Separate yourself.

Don’t believe everything you think. It’s easy to attach yourselves to your thoughts as if they are a part of you or define you, but you are not your beliefs. They can be altered and most are unjustified. To release these limitations, you have to understand these ideas just aren’t true and separate yourself from them. Realize you are two different sources of energy that can’t flow together if you want to achieve greatness. Instead of listening to anything that tells you you're powerless or unworthy, stop it in its tracks and turn the thought around. I am powerful. I am worthy.

Let it go.

These beliefs aren't born from nothing, so don't beat yourself up or ask what's wrong with you, nothing. You're human. We are all imprinted by beliefs that do us no good. Accept why these thoughts were there to begin with. Most of the things you believe have been programmed into your subconscious at an early age or through life experience with an intention to protect you. The thoughts that block you were placed there as a defense mechanism to keep you safe from the things you fear. Be thankful, but understand they no longer serve you any purpose. Let go of fear.

Embrace change.

Redirecting your mind is one thing; it's the essential first step in becoming the best version of yourself. But confidence is nothing without action. To see the impact of truly freeing yourself from self-limiting thoughts, you also need to kick self-limiting behaviors aside too. That means trusting your instincts, not the ideas of others. Invest in yourself, instead of always putting others first all the time. Don't mistake the envisioning as the end game. Acknowledge there are no short answers or easy solutions. It's a process, but it's worth it. Take action on your visions and ambitions. Seize what's meant for you, and grow.
