No resolutions in 2021!

Resolutions don't work, so this year make some real changes

By Talara NolanPublished 5 years ago 4 min read

Like everyone, every year I make resolutions like the rest of the world. And just like most of the world my resolutions mean nothing and I rarely ever actually accomplish them. You make them telling yourself that this year you will do them, this year you will accomplish things. You may even start to make changes in your life towards them. But sooner or later you just go back to doing the same thing that you did before. Why is that? For most people you forget your resolutions shortly after you make them. Habits, especially daily habits are harder to break than just making a resolution once a year. This year, make a commitment to not make a resolution. I know a crazy thought. But really think about how many resolutions that you have actually made and stuck with through your life. Most likely not many.

I do love new years and the feeling of a fresh start that seems to be in the air. It somehow makes me feel like with the switch of one day that you can change and make your life anything and everything that you want it to be. Though I also know that just before the year changed that it doesn't mean you will magically be a different person. The truth is that you were the same person that you were yesterday. You can make a difference, by making a commitment to yourself to do better and be better. Not because it is a different year, but because you want a better life than you had yesterday, than you had last year. 2020 was a tough year, for everyone, it was struggle, let us just be honest. But I think that it taught all of us what we don't want and that we need to be grateful with what we do have.

The greatest thing that you can do is to make a commitment to change and learn. If you are always learning and growing then you will always be becoming a better person. We don't know everything and there are always people that know more than we do. Make a commitment to always learn something new each and every day. There are so many online courses that you can take from home, some that are free or cheap to do. The best things that I have learned has always been from books, mostly self-help and autobiography books. We all go through challenges to learn something. So the best way to learn is by listening to other peoples stories. I have made a commitment to read at least 25 books this year. Being a single parent there has been times when I found it hard to find time to read in the past. But I know I need to make it a prioity in my life. For too long I have stayed stagnet in my life. Keeping things the way that they were, just because that is how my life was. It wasn't until I found myself lost and depressed that I realized I wasn't growing to become a better person.

I can say that the biggest lesson I have learned in 2020 is that nothing in life is guaranteed, and we really need to spend our time doing what we love and are passionate about, regardless of what other people think. I know that can be easier said than done. YouTube have spent so much of my life afraid to put myself out there, afraid to be regretted. But who cares what people think? Do what you want to do as long as it makes you happy. It might be regretted, but you will never know unless you try. We all need to be doing multiple things in life in order to have multiple streams of income. I think we all learned how important that is from 2020. Really look deep inside yourself, think of what brings you great joy. Then find a way to make an income from that. If you love dance, then look into having a job that involves dance. Such as a zumba instructor or dancer. Do you love trying new things? Maybe you want to start a YouTube channel to share your journey and story. Don't let people hold you back from what your life can become. You are worthy and capable of anything and everything that you want to do and become. We are all meant to do something. Don't let people hold you back, just because of what they may think. You have something to offer. All you have to do is believe in yourself. No matter where you are there is someone that wishes that they had something that you have. I started a YouTube channel, a started to put more of myself out there into the world. A scary thing, that I don't like doing. But I know that I have a voice to share and I want my life to be different. Just try.

I hope that this has given you some ideas to make a commitment to change your life. If nothing I hope that you don't make a resolutional but make a commitment. A commitment to yourself to be better and to make your life something better than it is. You worth all the things in the world that you want. All you have to do is try and do something different in order to have a different life. If you just keep doing the same thing then your life will be the same. Which is great if you love your life. However, if you don't then maybe it's time to try something new.

Thank you so much for reading. If no one told you today, you are enough, and you are appreciated for just who you are.
