What a year 2020 was! I think for everyone 2021 seems like a breath of fresh air in the right direction with our at least understanding of what this Covid craziness truly is. Not being able to see family, friends, attend Thanksgiving dinners and exchange presents at Christmas time for some is quite the mental rollercoaster for just about anyone. Like most people at least one item on my new year agenda is to get in the best physical shape I have ever gotten in. That usually lasts about a month or two until a stressful day at work results in my perusing the wine and frozen pizza aisles at the local supermarket. This year though I have a bit more motivation to get in shape; my wife is pregnant with twins! Now this is an amazing thing, I am on the cusp of turning 30 and in a matter of months, poof! I will have a son and a daughter to take care of. Insert grey hairs now! These will be our first children and they are already all the motivation I need to turn my life around for the better.
They say that children make you a better person or even a better version of yourself. I can already attest to that and they are not even here yet! You look at things differently, make decisions based on how they will affect your family and most importantly do everything in your power to make them proud of you. Therefore kids, here are my wellness resolutions for this year and I hereby promise to truly stick to them for you.
I will work out at minimum 5 days a week. Included in this is keeping sugar and alcohol at a minimum. This is particularly difficult for me due to my love for cakes, chocolates and anything and everything sweet. Also, who does not love an ice cold six pack waiting for you at the end of a long work week as you put your feet up and immerse yourself in the next 6-hour Netflix binge. Next on my list is limiting unnecessary spending. The best way to start this is by simply deleting all the delivery apps off your phone (I personally have 4 which is ridiculous, but hey I like options.) Ordering out in addition to dropping by the liquor store for that six pack or bottle of wine can easily set you back $100 weekly (Me and my wife alone traditionally order $60-$80 worth of food which can be considered as sick or impressive depending on who you ask.) Lastly, I plan on either learning a new language or learning an instrument (I chose the electric guitar naturally). This no doubt will be difficult with two newborns at home but hey they are 24 hours in a day and considering by next Fall I will be an expert at minimal sleep I might as well utilize my extra waking hours constrictively in between feeding and diaper changes.
2021 is my year! I will make the most of each day in ways I have never done before. I will be the best version of myself not only for me but for my son and my daughter. The road to greatness is paved with blood, sweat and tears and I will endure it all to be that superhero version of myself that my kids can look up to and one day wish to emulate (no pressure Dad). I am going to give this year my all and a year from now my goal is to look back and not only have my kids proud of me, but I wish to honestly be proud of myself and what I can achieve with the right mindset. Cheers to 2021!
