Every season I try to participate in Nanowrimo but never really works out very well. I usually just stare at my notebook. Getting very little to nothing done. I get really intimated by the word count of 50,000.
But this season of Nanowrimo I pushed myself to write. Instead of aiming for the word count, my goal is to just writ as much as I can. I've accomplished 28 stories so far and it's only the 27th of November. With an average word count of just under 10,000 so far for the month. But who's counting?
The challenge for Nanowrimo is a word count of 50,000. This has to be the most overwhelming goal to accomplish. I mean people accomplish this goal all the time but 50,000 words can be very overwhelming.
I do love how Nanowrimo has daily badges/awards to help you aim for your goals. Getting an award for just showing up? That great! Getting an award for accomplishing word counts daily? Sign me up! This does actually help to encourage you to write something in a day. Nanowrimo does have personal badges/ awards you can give yourself. Getting a badge or qualifying for a personal badge makes you feel so good about yourself and wants you to write more.
This November I've decided to take a different approach. Leaving the word count goal in but just adjusting the challenge a little bit by making my own goal of just writing.
Isn't that the main purpose of Nanowrimo? To encourage you to write; write till your fingers fall off.
The only reason why I pushed myself to participate this season is to get back into the routine of writing daily. I think I've succeeded in doing that. Maybe I’ll eventually get to the 50,000-word count in a single month the next time Nanowrimo comes back around.
I’ve forgotten how addictive writing is. The rush you get when people start to notice your work- I think that's more addictive actually. You've heard of a runner's high, what about a writer's high? Is that even a thing? Well, it is now. I think I just made it a thing if it's not already.
I personally enjoy dumping my brain garbage all over a pen and paper and sharing it so everyone else can read what goes on in my pretty little head. I’m a daydreamer, so I constantly have many stories going on up there to keep me busy for days. So, why I have such trouble keeping up with the word count of 50,000 for Nanowrimo, I have no idea.
Even though NaNoWriMo is coming to an end in a few days it doesn't stop me from continuing to write daily and sharing my daydreams. I'm excited to see what December has in stock for me in the inspirational department. Maybe just maybe next time around I will be able to write a 50,000-word Novel and complete the word count challenge.
Even though I didn't accomplish the word goal for November, to me Nanowrimo was a success. 28 stories in just 27 days. That to me is a success and I'm now excited to see what I come up with next. Secretly I’m also enjoying all of the attention I've been getting this month.
I've been posting on Vocal for about 6 years and this month has been the most attention I've received. To be honest it actually feels good to get noticed by other people and the people are enjoying my writing, and wanting more. I think that's part of why I've written so much this month, it makes you feel good to get positive feedback and comments from people.

You're doing amazing work
Keep at it! Next year you will have less trouble. Until you use it as you wish.❤️😊💕 I am on track, only because I have used several of my already written stories from vocal. I agree that is how I got my daily writing habit in from NaNoWriMo. I have gotten the 50,000. words more than once and I will this time too. But I probably wrote a lot less this month than for a normal nanowrimo, even though I am writing for Vocal and Medium also. I am editing at the same time on my story and putting a book together, with chapters, table of contents, forward, afterward, and finding stories that fit.
