Mindset & Attitude

Learning from Nature

By Calvin Shenault ElPublished 5 years ago 10 min read
The Only Real Teacher of Earth

From this day forward, I want everyone that is willing to invest time into themselves, and that means, YOU, if your eyes are reading these words, to observe and study these three animals.

A Shark

A Eagle

A Lion

They all have one thing coming, their strong-minded sense of dominance over every other animal in their domain. They are not the strong’s animal, nor the smart’s animal, not even the tallest animal. But when they show up, they show out. It is their attitude that demands respect from all other animals.

One animal wakes up every morning, telling itself, “I must run to survive” and the other “I must eat to survive”.

Learn from these beautiful animals, meditate on their abilities that Our Great God, Source, Higher power, (which every name you give IT), has given to these life forms that walk among this beautiful place most people call Earth. They can offer us so much wisdom, if we get back to Nature and live life appreciating the body, mind, spirit, connection with the environment, we could see how much we can really Evolve instead of devolving.

Gods of the Air

Let's go alphabetically, and feast our eyes on the God of the Air, The Eagle.

Let's go over a couple characteristics of these captivating birds. For starters, they fly at very high altitude, alone. They have the capabilities and willpower to buss the sky. Eagles don't fly with other small birds. That refers to having only like minded people around you. Keep good company, because you become like the people you hang around. If they do not live by the same principles and code then remove yourself or them.

There is no in between, playing in lukewarm water is dangerous for both parties. Stay in your lane and don't allow others to bring you down. We are who we are to the core. It's a saying that goes like this, “you can take a man out of the hood, but you can't take the hood out of a man”. That being said Do you and Be You.

Next they have vision, they are blessed with sight that can see things from miles away. The Eagle will remain focused on its target regardless of the obstacles in its way, until the mission is complete. So that tells us (the observer), no matter what life throws at you, the objective is to remain calm and focus on the goal until it is complete. Never allow yourself to give up and quit. I like to say you never fail, only learn. You literally have to fail your way to success.

Eagles are greathearted, they will never surrender to any prey no matter the size or strength. It will always put up a fight to collect its prey. It is a very determined bird and will risk its life to send a message. So the significance of the Eagle being fearless, is that, no matter how big or small your problem is, you have the willpower to find the solution. And as I like to say it “Make Some Shake”.

Which Mindset will you adopt, Rise & Survive or Rise & Thrive. Don’t run from your problems, they will only build up and cause more problems down the road. So, you must be FEARLESS, Success people are very fearless, they face problems head on. And you should want to do the same!

Eagles love the Storm. They love seeing clouds gather, so they can use the winds from the storm to elevate themselves. This will give the Eagle the opportunity to glide and rest its wings. While other birds are hiding themselves under branches or shelter, cautious of the coming storm, the eagle is out and about looking for new opportunities and adventures.

And you are no different. Achievers are not immune to challenges, rather they relish them and use them for profitability. So if that is understood, you must realize that you must get on your high horse and make it happen. Believe in yourself and always remember YOU are the Storm.

Eagles never eat dead things. They never scavenge for anything, eating dead meat is not for them. Eagles only eat meat from the prey it just killed. They can’t rely on the success of another animals’ success of hunting to eat. For us that is implying that we should not rely on past success, keep moving forward, looking for new adventures and exhibitions. Leave your past where it belongs, in the past. We must continue to grow, as everything else on this beautiful Earth does.

So, now that you have begun the beginning research of the eagle, Read and meditate over these couple characteristics and apply them to your life. Adopt their abilities and watch your life change for the better. Remember change is a process and you must keep moving forward, I don’t care how small your step forward is. You are ONLY competing with yourself. Now, let’s continue moving on to this next glorified beast on the list.

King Of the Jungle

The King Of The Jungle, The Lion

The Lion is not the biggest cat, nor the smartest, or the fastest, but when they appear every other animal nearby is aware of its presence. They respect their every move, literally. Just think to yourself, if you were in the same field as a lion. Even if you were sitting in a car, you and your company would be on high alert. So just imagine how other animals feel when they are in need of water, and have to drink water from the same source as a lion???

That being said, the lion doesn't have to write king on his forehead so that everyone knows. He doesn't have to say he is Superior to any other animal. That being said, people with power don't have to say they have power. It's in their walk, how they talk, and how they conduct themselves on a daily basis.

What do you do when you first wake up?

What are your first thoughts?

Is it a negative one or a positive one?

Are you excited to get the day going?

Or are you hitting the snooze button repeatedly?

The Lion is thrilled to get it’s day going! I’m sure their first thoughts are “what's on the menu”.

Regardless of how the past days were, every new morning is a new beginning. You have the choice before you, to make small improvements or to gradually decline. This is why I believe in staying positive and attempting to make the best out of any situation. That is always in our arms reach of control, in every moment. This is why it is important to stay present in the moment. It is a gift to all those who put all their energy into every moment of existence.

A Lion’s roar can be heard from miles away.

The lesson here is that we have to make ourselves heard. What you have within you could really change society or even the world at large but if you never open up and express yourself, a problem will always go unsolved. Therefore, mean what you say, and say what you mean. We should always be looking to better ourselves, so we can reach back and guide the next man or woman to help them better themselves. This is how a real community of people co-operate and evolve as a collective.

Lions are very sociable creatures. They create groups, known as prides.

The lesson to take from here is that we are sociable creatures as well. And we need to find like-minded people to socialize with only; People who have a similar mindset as you. If you don't have like-minded people around you at the moment, don't panic, just continue your journey alone, and make yourself visible to the right crowd of people. Eventually you will find your Tribe and blossom.

Lions prepare their young mentally and physically for daily life.

If you have observed lions before, then you already know that if a lion sees a wounded animal, it will not attack it because Lions live to Hunt. They love the thrill of chasing and catching their prey. It gives them reasons to breathe and feel alive. So instead, they let cubs play with it. And the experimenting begins. They see how adults do it and mimic them. They are learning and playing at the same time. They are learning that we must work together to get the job done. With a plan and strategy the lions learn how to cooperate as a whole so we all can eat.

So as a baby, we must adopt this mindset from our parents and continue it into adulthood. Therefore, it is very important that the parents show this in the household so the kids can mimic it. The parents must first understand their roles and then show the kids, how working as a team will always get the job done with a plan and strategy ( a system).

So, now that we have learned a couple characteristics of the Lion, we should understand that you are operating under one of the two mentality. Either you are Rising & Surviving or Rising & Thriving. The choice is always up to you. You are either slowly growing or gradually declining. We control this through the choices we make throughout the day.

Are you reading a book or watching tv?

At the store, did you buy an apple or brownie?

Are you connecting with toxic people or like- minded people?

Is your environment messy or organized?

Do you Lead or Follow?

Am I in the present moment or in the past and/or in the future?

These are just some of the small decisions we all make on a daily basis. And most of us do this on an unconscious level. That’s why it’s so important to communicate to the Subconscious mind when you want to make a change to your behavior.

The best time to communicate is when you first wake up and before you go to sleep. If you add meditation to your daily practice, then you are given more opportunities to connect. That’s just one of the many benefits of meditating. I think meditation is so important it should be taught and experienced in school for all kids of all ages.

Guardian of the Water

Let's now explore the last but definitely not the least of these beautiful beasts, The Guardian of the water, The Shark.

Fearsome Teeth and a Big Appetite

As apex predators, sharks play an important role in the ecosystem by maintaining the species below them in the food chain and serving as an indicator for ocean health. They help remove the weak and the sick as well as keeping the balance with competitors helping to ensure species diversity.

What sharks do in the water, we are supposed to do on land. Think about how the military operates; the strong surround the weak, so everyone is protected. Instead of taking advantage of the weak, we are supposed to make sure they have everything that is needed to survive and thrive. If the weak are protected, then there is no weakness to our society and everyone can Thrive and not just survive. That being said, if you have the resources and the opportunity to help, don't hesitate to assist your fellow man. As the saying goes "with great power comes great responsibility". I am my brother's keeper.

SHARKS HAVE A SIXTH SENSE

All sharks have a 'sixth sense' that helps them hone in on prey during the final phase of attack: the ‘ampullae of lorenzini’ are found on sharks' snouts and can sense the electric fields emitted by animals in the surrounding water. So the lesson here is to understand that you also have more than 5 senses. For example, when your hair stands up on your skin, you intuitively know that something is not right and Fight or Flight is about to kick in.

Learn how to listen to your inner voice, it will always keep you out of harm's way. Just imagine if Society at large, was taught how to strengthen their inner voice. It would be almost impossible to bamboozle anybody. It's a saying in the bible that goes, "My people are destroyed for the lack of knowledge". Meaning someone can only take advantage of you, if you don't have the right knowledge in any situation. Therefore, it must be understood that, there are no dumb people. Just people who have not been enlightened on a particular subject.

THEY'VE BEEN AROUND FOR A LONG TIME

Sharks have been around for over 400 million years - long before dinosaurs. Because their skeletons are made of cartilage (like our noses) instead of bones, they don’t leave fossils like other animals – but fossilized shark teeth have been found. The lesson here is before you can know where you are going, you must know where you have been. Most people don't find it important to understand their history, but wonder why they are struggling to create a harmonious future.

If I am able to learn from my history and ancestors, I will understand what didn't work and what did. So, the next generation can apply the knowledge and create something better instead of the same old thing or something worse. Once again, if we observe and learn from Nature, we will understand that everything must continue to grow or get left behind. So, learn from the past but don't dwell in the past. As Martin Luther King, Jr said " If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.

Continue studying different animals and learn from them so you can apply the lessons to your daily lives. As I have said before, Nature is the only true Teacher on this earth. We all are students of the game, but the ones who have studied Nature have experienced spiritual enlightenment.

Accept where you are now and grow from there. You are only competing with yourself. Stay focused on yourself and continue evolving. Before you can love the next man or woman you must first love yourself.

Improve and/or change your Mindset & Attitude to match what you want out of life. At the end of the day you are in control of your reality. Take ownership, don't rent it, don't lease it. Take full ownership of your life, cause when it's all said and done, IT'S YOUR LIFE!

No Excuses !!!

Rise & Survive or RISE & THRIVE... you choose!
