“The more you feed your mind with positive thoughts, the more you can attract great things into your life.” - Roy Bennett

Food is essential for us humans, in order to survive, that's no secret. Our body needs to absorb that food in order to supply the required energy needed for our various organs and tissues to function accordingly. When we fail to feed our body with the nutrients it needs, the first things we notice that starts to happen is our body becomes weaker, as our muscles begin to shrink, and we begin to lose weight. As a few days pass by without food, our body starts to basically feed on itself, turning to its energy storage, such as carbohydrates and fats, but once these reserve energy levels are used up, that's when things get really serious. Our vital organs start to shrink, our body temperature significantly drops, the immune system is severely weakened, and the kidneys begin failing. Even our concentration levels deteriorate, as the likes of hallucinations and convulsions set in. As the body consumes the remainder of its fat and carbohydrate storage, it begins to feed off the muscle protein, including from the heart. From here, it's only a matter of time, and the body can no longer function, which of course leads us to perish. Starvation is not exactly a very inspiring and motivating topic to talk of, that's for sure. Sadly, we live in a world where it is also real, as an estimation has revealed that 1 in 9 people globally suffer from undernourishment. For those of us who are privileged enough to have access to clean water and healthy food, I think we should always remember to take a moment to be grateful, and understand how blessed we truly are in life, because there are many others who would die for as much as a bite of an apple. So why is there a need to discuss starvation on a blog designed for motivation, personal development, and inspiration?

When we think of starvation, we automatically think of the deprivation of food for our body. Do we ever think of mind starvation though? You might well ask what even is mind starvation? Well let's first take a look at what mind food is, as after all, we can't exactly stick a fork or spoon in our ears, with some food on it. Let's also get the obvious out of the way by stating that mind food isn't physical food, of course. Mind food is information in which we fill our brain with. Each and every day, our mind is bombarded with a plethora of information, in some form or another. That information can be from watching our favorite television programs, watching the news, talking with our friends, talking with our partner, talking with our parents, talking with our workmates, talking with our customers, reading something on social media, reading or viewing something online, reading books, reading reviews, you name it. The amount of information our mind needs to process is endless. From the day we are born, our mind pretty much goes straight to work in processing different forms of information. As we transform from infancy, into childhood, it's that information that helps us to grow and develop as a person, we inherit our own personality and character, and we begin to adopt and believe the things we see and hear, especially from influential people such as our parents and our teachers. By our teenage years, we become even more easily influenced, this time by our classmates, and especially when there is peer pressure involved, as we begin to feel the urgency of being liked, respected, and admired. We feel the need to follow what others do in order to fit in. By early adulthood, that desperation to be liked, admired, and respected, escalates again. We become desperate to ensure that people like us, so we follow the crowd, we do everything that most other people do, and we believe what most other people believe. We become aware that if we don't, we then get criticized, mocked, disliked, and ridiculed. With all this information our mind is being fed, over just these 20 odd years, it's throughout this time that what we believe, what we follow, how we behave, and what we focus on, all shapes our character and our future. All this information is mind food, and although it doesn't end here, because we continually process information our entire life, it's the first quarter of our life that is so important.

So we now know that mind food is information. It takes us to the next point of what information exactly are we being fed? I want you to pause for a minute and think of everyone you communicate with on a regular basis, and even think of your own behavior, and the sort of conversations you have with people. What are these conversations and interactions about? Do you talk about your family, do you talk about your own successes, do you talk about your job, do you talk about other people? What I want you to particularly focus on though is how much of these conversations and interactions are actually positive in comparison to negative? Positive conversations are naturally uplifting, inspiring, motivating, and encouraging. They are about sharing success stories, about lifting one another up, about encouraging eachother to achieve one another's respective goals, about discussing one another's goals, about how you have contributed to enhancing the lives of others, and all those sort of discussions that fill you with happiness and inspiration. Then we have the negative conversations. These conversations are filled with gossip about others, constantly whinging and complaining about others, constantly whinging and complaining about our job and how we hate at, constantly whinging and complaining about how we never get what we want in life, constantly talking out of envy in what other people possess that we don't, constantly whinging and complaining we never have enough money, constantly whinging and complaining that we don't have a nice house, car, or furniture, and all these other negatives. The unfortunate truth is, it's the negatives that the majority of people will talk about. Negativity is all around us, and to escape it is near impossible, but we can certainly isolate ourselves away from it, and disengage from it, as much as possible.

When negative minded people share their tale of woe, their gossip, their ingratitude, and their low level point of views about life, that is information that is also being fed into our mind. The more we expose our mind to this, the more we become influenced by this, then ultimately, the more we start to believe it. Mind food is no different to food we eat in the sense there are healthy foods, and there are unhealthy foods. We know that the likes of fruit and vegetables are most beneficial to our health, because they are natural. Eating more of these type foods keeps our body healthy, energized, active, and alert. On the other side of the spectrum, you have your unhealthy foods such as fast food, processed food, and any foods high in fat, sugar, or carbohydrates. Although eating these type foods is acceptable in moderation, it doesn't change the fact that they aren't really good for us health-wise. When we continually indulge in these bad foods, we then increase our risk of getting diabetes, obesity, heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol levels, perhaps some cancers, and even increases our risk of having a stroke. It's the complete opposite to the starvation I talked of above, but we are still heading for the same result, which is premature death. Rather than starving our body of vital nutrients, we are instead filling it with the wrong nutrients, making it toxic to our body. Mind food works exactly the same way for us. When we continually expose our mind to positive information, we are filled with happiness, we are grateful, we have a positive attitude, we believe in ourselves, we are goals driven, we are focused, we are motivated, we are inspired, and we are determined. All these are exactly the ingredients that help guide us to success. On the flip side, if we constantly expose our mind to negative information, we become angry, we become frustrated, we lose focus on our goals, we are unsatisfied, we are unhappy, we are ungrateful, we are possessed by fear and doubt, we lack motivation and willpower, we become pessimistic, and we have a negative attitude. All these are the ingredients that lead us to live a life of dissatisfaction, unhappiness, and failure.

Let's be honest, we cannot control the way in which others think in life, or what others choose to believe. Each person is in control of their own mindset, decisions, and beliefs. What we can control is what we choose to think, what we choose to believe, and what circle of individuals we choose to spend our time with. We also are in total control of what we choose to focus on. Minus all the negativity around us, and all those outlets we can digest that negative information from, we can create a more positive environment for ourselves. That starts with our focus. Now we are human after all, so we are naturally always going to have both negative and positive thoughts, but it's what we choose to focus on that will actually dictate the direction our life will progress. We each have the power to choose our own thoughts, it's as simple as that. There are so many negatives to think about, such as that we are not happy where we are in life currently, that we don't have much money, and we are concerned about possible outcomes and circumstances in the future, to name just a few, but if we continually feed our mind with those negative thoughts, purely because we are making the choice to focus on them, we are only fueling that negativity. We are feeding this negativity food for it to survive and thrive, and that's not what we want. We want to actually starve that negativity. We want that negativity to perish, so that we are left with that healthy, beneficial, and satisfying positivity filling our mind. It's that positivity we need to feed, and we do that from constantly being grateful for what we have in life, seeking out the good that each day brings, focusing on our happiness, helping and uplifting others, and even just doing the simple act of smiling more. The more we feed this positivity, the more we begin to starve that negativity, and what that means is that we are inviting more positive things into our life, because that's where our focus is. Rob Dial says it beautifully in one of his short videos, that if you continue to focus on things that you are grateful for, you will continue to get more things to be grateful for.

When it comes to starvation within your mind, you have a choice. You can starve yourself of the positivity in your life, by constantly focusing on all the negatives instead, which in turn will then starve you of the opportunity for happiness, success, prosperity, satisfaction, fulfillment, and goals accomplishment, or you can starve the negativity in your life, which will then allow you to thrive, feel happy, gain success, create satisfaction, achieve your goals, and fill your life up with so much more to be grateful for. It's a choice, a simple choice, that only you can make for yourself. No one else can do it for you. No one else has the power to control your mind, not unless you allow them to, and if that's the case, more than likely it will not be in your best interest. Feed your mind with positivity. Take a look at your daily activities, and what sources of information are you really feeding your mind with, then ask yourself if it is really beneficial for you, and contributing to you maintaining a positive mindset? Surround yourself with those who support you, who uplift you, who are goals driven, who encourage you, who motivate you, and who inspire you. Make sure that mind food that you indulge in is healthy, so you can start attracting more great things in your life, rather than continuing on starving yourself of them! Feed your mind with information that helps you to continue to learn, grown, and develop in life.
