What’s your artist name and where are you from?
My name is Suave Da Saint and I’m a rapper slash songwriter from Chicago, Illinois. I’m from the Englewood area on the city’s Southside, but my family moved around a lot so I got to experience all types of people and places growing up. I’ve gone by many names in the past but I evolved into Suave Da Saint after accepting that music would be my platform to fulfill my purpose during my stint on Earth. They didn’t believe, God did.
Why do you love music?
For me, music is a way to express those emotions you can’t put into words yourself. For example, when you’re feeling overwhelmed and that perfect song comes on it just takes you away from all your worries. Leopold Stokowski once said, "A painter paints pictures on canvas. But musicians paint their pictures on silence".
What makes you different as a music artist?
I’m a stand-up guy on and off the mic. I understand that artists can be looked at as role models so I move with integrity. Aside from the personality aspect I drew inspiration from artists that most people wouldn’t pair together. I get my melody-making process from Tech N9ne, my voice from Kevin Gates, lyricism from Lil Wayne, and my conscious side from Common.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In 5 years I see myself partnering with various Non-For Profit organizations in Chicago to bring social and economic resources to the people. That just comes from the impact my grandparents had on me. My grandma always had a warm plate and a place to stay when needed so I’d like to continue her legacy by providing those to the unhoused community. My grandad was the smartest man I knew so I would create scholarships and after-school programs in his honor.
What do you want to accomplish in life?
I just want to help heal my city and hopefully inspire others to do the same for their respective cities. There’s such a deep and bloody history in Chicago that unfortunately affects life as we know it. For example, the Black Panther Party was able to unite gangs all around the city, and the powers that be didn’t like that so they assassinated or jailed anyone that stood in their way. There are hardly any grocery stores in the hood but on every corner there’s a fast food joint or liquor store. Schools don’t even get proper funding to provide quality education. For decades we’ve been lacking quality leadership, proper nutrition, and education. No society could thrive with those circumstances and unfortunately, there’s no superhero to come out of nowhere and save the day. It’s a collective effort that needs someone with a name to change the narrative. Hopefully, it’s Chicago today and global tomorrow.
What do you bring to the music world?
I’m bringing infectious beats and hooks paired with provocative stories of ambition, lust, and remorse. It’ll be an introspective journey that leaves the listener wondering why they didn’t listen sooner. Beyond the talent, I’m bringing back authenticity. Personally I’m tired of everyone rapping about obscene amounts of money and designer clothes that I probably can’t pronounce. It’s played out and frankly makes you a target because most fans of rap don’t have it like that.
What do you want to be remembered by?
I want to be remembered for everything I did for rap and my city. Awards and accolades are just trivial things we made up but the impact you have on a generation is profound and everlasting.
