- What's your name and where are you from?
My name is Jawaan "Madman" Lowery. But you can call me Madman.... or just Mad. I'm from New Jersey. South Jersey that is. (There’s a difference). Right outside of Atlantic City and Pleasantville. Grew up in Galloway. It's why we rep #Team609! here.
- Why do you love what you do?
There's something magical about creating and crafting something out of thin air. Being able to take something that only you can hear, in your mind, and bring it to life, sculpt it, to the point that somebody else with a completely different thought process and taste will literally stop whatever it is that they're doing and say "What is THAT?!?" It's also very frightening, cuz you just never know who's gonna like what lol. But I've been classically trained as a percussionist since 3rd grade. I can't tell you what originally made me wanna pick up the drum sticks, but I can tell you that I've been great since day one. Even made the South Jersey Honors Band in 8th grade. I started writing at around 8 years old. What's that, like 2nd grade? I just knew I wanted to rap. Turned out, I was pretty good with the pen. I then started to DJ in middle school and moved towards producing for myself AND other artist by the time I was 14..... Recording and mixing myself at 15.... so yea. The love for this is literally in my DNA. I've been bred for this.
- What makes you different?
My ear. Period! I've got golden ears. I can hear what notes should come next even though technically I'm not a singer. I can hear harmonies before words are even crafted, or when the beat should drop, or a changeup needs to happen. My flow and cadence is 1 of 1. I credit that to my drumming years. I've also worked with more Grammy winners and nominees than most. I'm talking Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins. Freddie Jerkins. LaShawn Daniels (RIP). Teddy Riley. Rico Love. Beanie Sigel. D'Mile. The list goes on. Put it like this... Six degrees of separation in South Jersey is real. And I'M Kevin Bacon.
- Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Executive producing Film and TV. Supervising musical beds and introducing amazing artist, songwriters, and producers to the world.
- What do you want to accomplish in life?
Leaving a legacy. Not just for my kids or family. But leaving a tremendous mark on the entire entertainment industry, or the world even, while maintaining trust and loyalty through transparency.
- What do you bring to your industry?
Fear. Fear and talent of course. I've learned that a lot of industry people don't want to work with me because they can't control me, or get over on me business wise. I'm not just signing anything, or letting someone take a piece of my publishing that doesn't deserve or work for it. They also view me as a threat since I'm self-contained. I don't really need anybody, and I'm sure they're gonna learn a lot more watching me than I am watching them. But I don't want their spot. Man I don't even wanna be in the same car lol. But we can meet up once we all get there. It's all love.
- What do you want to be remembered by?
Quality. There's never any excuse not to have it. Quality over quantity. But Man!! I got so much quantity as well. So I guess I want to be remembered by "the overall quantity of quality". That's it... Oh yea and #Team609!
