What’s your name and where are you from?
Jaxen Spurs, and I grew up in Danville, California.
Why do you love what you do?
Being on stage has always just been a natural way for me to express myself on a deeper level. Music really does have a therapeutic effect when it’s made with love, and I truly do see it as a blessing to be on stage. If you really put some trout into it, I can’t think of anything else that can make twenty thousand or so people all move in unison regardless of their beliefs or backgrounds. I believe music truly breaks through those boundaries and creates a space for people to be open with one another
What makes you different?
I think After so much time on the road, and with all walks of life, my own personal life experience is what really allows me to stand out. Not just with putting out competitive music, but also with my approach towards my career. Growing My non profit label “Saved By .Wavs” is a way for me to make my life and my music about something bigger than myself. We all dream about the big stages, but my passion was always in helping people. Putting out 100% organic music has not been an easy task, and was not unanimously well received. With refusing to stick to standards, I actually just released a 4 song EP that covers 4 different genres, and we plan to release 4 more songs this year that are equally as eclectic. It’s defining always an uphill struggle getting new music out, but people seem to be really digging these tunes.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
I see myself playing globally! We have been National for some time now, and we are looking toward future tours in the UK as well as Australia by summer of 2024. It’s unbelievable the amount of access an independently artist has this day and age, and I’m really hoping to encourage other artists to pursue independent success while pushing for those major deals. I see the label thriving well once people start catching on to what it is. Saved By .Wavs “Making music for economic change” is about so much more than just the show. If we’re gonna make music, we’re gonna put up our own stages, and do it for the community that comes out to support.
What do you want to accomplish in life?
After going through recovery from addiction, there was a huge shift in focus on my part. I learned all about what it is to be helped by another person. Since then We’ve run our team like somewhat of a ministry with the full intention of doing gods work, in whatever ways we are led to over time. My biggest goal is to implement Saved By .Wavs in all 50 states.
What do you bring to your industry?
My response would probably be nothing less than egotistical, but I think If you asked someone on my team they would probably tell you innovation. I pride myself in thinking outside the box and really creating something that people haven’t heard before. The record label has an entirely new business model for the music industry and we really think other labels will appreciate everything we’ve don’t to cut costs.
What do you want to be remembered by?
The part of me that I’m most proud of is kindness. My siblings and I were so lucky to have parents that taught us to push ourselves to be great, but they also pushed us to do it with kindness. That lesson has grown to play a huge role in my life, and the way I want to be recognized as a human being.
