Less Talk, More Action!

- David Stidston

"A lot of people are all talk, what they say and what they do are two different things. As the saying goes, talk is cheap. Without actions behind the talk, it is all useless." - Catherine Pulsifer

One of the biggest flaws that humankind has never been able to eliminate, or even just improve on, is inaction. Time and time again, we find ourselves making a statement, adamant that we will do something, and constantly talking the talk, yet all too often, we fail to execute or engage in the actions to support our words. Politicians are a classic example of such behavior. How many times do we hear them make promises that they will do this, and they will do that, in order to support their fellow citizens and enhance their country, and yet they fail to act on those promises? Let's not point the finger at politicians though, because you and I are just as guilty of inaction. I hear so many examples of people who state they will start working towards their goals, and they will commit to scheduling in the time to do so, yet they never do. Question them why, and they will respond with the same old excuses, such as "they haven't had the time", or "they've been too busy", or "now is just not the right time". What happens from here? They never get around to it! They continually allow themselves to get caught up in their everyday life, focusing on tasks and activities that shouldn't even be a priority to them, and yet they wonder why they are not happy and satisfied in life. Then you have those individuals who are always complaining about being overweight. They either tell themselves, or others, that they are going to do better with their diet, and they are going to exercise more regularly and intensely, and yet there they are a few weeks later, lazing on the couch snacking on chips and chocolate. Another common example of inaction comes from tobacco smokers. Time and time again, they tell themselves, and others, that they are going to quit, because they know it's negatively impacting their health, and yet a few weeks, a few months, even a few years later, there they are with another cigarette in their hand, smoking away. Granted that smoking can easily become addiction, it still doesn't excuse us from exercising our willpower. Words are easy! Anyone can say anything they like, but words hold no meaning unless they are supported with action. So, in essence, all we are really doing, is lying. Not only are we lying to others, we are lying to ourselves also. Lying, after all, is a clear indication of a lack of integrity. That's not a good reflection of our character.

Right at this very moment, we should be assessing where we are at in life. Are we completely happy and satisfied, not just with life in general, but in all aspects of our life. Are we happy in our relationships, our health, our career, our financial situation, our lifestyle, our family life, our wellbeing, our spirituality, and of course, the accomplishment of our goals? If you have got all the boxes ticked, you are doing an extraordinary job, because life rarely leaves us to relish in comfort and contentment for too long. We often find that various challenges and adversities are thrown at us, which can generate a great amount of discomfort, stress, and anxiety. For most people, life is far from satisfying and happy. We experience bursts of satisfaction and happiness perhaps, but overall, many of us don't feel accomplished, and we don't feel we have achieved what we want to achieve in our life. We have goals that we would love to achieve, yet we feel like they are near impossible to achieve, due to our current circumstances in life. So, when feeling unsatisfied, unaccomplished, unfulfilled, and unhappy, especially on such a continual basis, what do people do? They resort to whinging and complaining! The reality is, nothing is stopping people from achieving their goals in life, nor is anything preventing them from starting that journey towards their goals today. Nothing external anyway. The only thing that stands in between an individual, and the finish line to achieving their goals, is themselves. It's their own doubts, their own fears, their own lack of willpower and courage. So many people succumb to failure, so many people give up, so many people don't even bother trying, but the most frustrating part of it all is, they state that they are going to achieve their goals in life. When? 2 years? 5 years? 10 years? 20 years? At retirement? There are no actions to back up such a statement, in fact, there isn't an action plan of any sort. Therefore, their words are meaningless!

What is it that you desire in life? What do you desire your future to look like? Guaranteed, you would have told other people that you wish for this, or you dream of that, or you hope this will happen. We each have a vision of what we want our life to be like, and what we want our future to hold, but it's just disappointing that so many of us don't even adhere to those words that come out of our mouth, or even just the thoughts we generate in our mind. We don't take action, and when we fail to take action, the unfortunate result is that we will always fail to achieve success and happiness in life. Action is the key! If you aren't working towards creating a future blessed with success, happiness, prosperity, and goals accomplishment, then what is stopping you? Do you truly want these blessings and rewards in life? The answer to that first question is yourself, and the answer to that second question can be found within your actions. Perhaps you're not even taking action at all. Don't designate yourself to a life of dissatisfaction, unhappiness, and failure! If you've expressed the goals you want to achieve, be it to yourself or others, then it's time to turn those words into action, because it's through action that these words can be transformed into reality! Overcome your fears and doubts, draw on your willpower and motivation, and get stuck into the actions that are working towards creating the life you desire. Less talk, more action! Happiness, success, and prosperity are waiting for you.
