Time for a Change
I'm sure you are all aware of the "history" we've been taught in school and the effects it has had on us as kids and teens. When I learned about the holocaust, 9/11, slavery, and just the pure hatred for anyone who was different, it really got to me. I don't believe muslims were responsible for the Twin Towers, and I also think Hitler had a different agenda than we were told. As far as slavery and racism...that's a different story—and here's what I think.

How to Find Motivation When You Can't Find a Reason to
1 Set yourself alarms. Write down things that need doing around the house, plan the grocery shopping, bundle all your socks into pairs. Give yourself ten minutes to water your plants, fifteen to have breakfast, and twenty minutes each for the intermittent naps you’re going to need during the day. Organise your day as much as you possibly can, and try your hardest to get into a routine. Don’t rush yourself to do anything; if you need to lie awake in the morning and just think before you get up, that’s okay.

Finding Your Purpose
Life seems to keep us trapped in the same cycles over and over again. Once we embark down the path of a career plan, we basically decide exactly what direction our life is going in. But what if there was more to life than that? What if we were capable of so much more than we ever thought imaginable? The system of our society takes out the individuality that once existed. It seems that the majority of us get pushed into positions that are impersonal and put in a place of being very replaceable. This can cause us to feel purposeless, and our lives to grow mundane. We as individuals need to break apart and rebuild our view of our own potential and what we are capable of and break the mold of who we are.

Unspoken Story
What did that cashier at that retail store do before where they are now? How about that millionaire living in their mansion; what's their story? Well, let me challenge your brain for a moment with a thought of mine and experiences I've encountered. So put that smartphone on silent, pause Netflix, and let me dive into your mind for the next five minutes.Think about this: we walk by and pass hundreds to thousands of people day after day that we come into contact with. Why do they matter, though? Let me ask you this question I want you to ponder through this post. If we never ask about something, how can we ever know? Close your eyes for a moment. No, not literally. What I mean is close your eyes to your mind and just think. Imagine this: you are in a crowded, busy city. You decide to take a rest and stop at nearby bench to sit down at. You take a good look around you and all you see is people. They're all rushing from one location to another. Students going to school, employees going to work, housewives going to the store, and so on. The majority of them don't even bat an eye to one another; they just continue on their way. Most of society doesn't give this a second thought. Myself, though? I want to challenge this view. Think of it this way: each and every person has a name and a story. Their story or journey could be of great trials that they had to overcome to achieve the great prosperous life that they have now, or they could be in a dark pit, struggling, feeling like they are drowning in fear and darkness. Allow me to share an experience I had in the past.

Open Hands
One of the most obvious life lessons I have had the (unfortunate) pleasure of learning over the past few years is the life is not in my control. As much as I can try and take control of things and try to steer situations, outcomes, even people in a direction that I feel they should go... I am reminded constantly that it is a futile waste of effort.

Yes I’m an Optimist…but Don’t Blame Me, Blame the Integral!
While I may be a self-proclaimed optimist and the proud owner of an internal locus of control, I maintain that not every day is (or should be) a good one. As Hannah Montana taught us, “Everybody has those days,” when things kind of just suck. But rather than wallowing in misfortune, I find that it’s these times when I most need to remember the calculus I’ve learned.

The Only Thing That Controls You Is You
There was a point in time where I came up with a saying that helped me develop patience, or a better sense of patience; that's a constant work in progress for me. I said this. "There are only two things in this life that I cannot do: I cannot fight God. If it's going to rain, it is going to rain. There is nothing I can do about it, and the other was, and yes this is rude, I can't put brains in peoples heads." I acknowledge, the last part is a bit of a dick statement, but it is also a fact. If someone is going to choose to do something dumb, I can advise against it, but I can't stop them.

Make a Change
Three years ago I left the state of Michigan to go to North Carolina on a family vacation. It was my brothers, sisters, and I's first time being so far away from where we called home. It was full of new surprises every time we would make it into another state. Every year since then I have made a trip down to the mountains, not always for a particular reason but more of a way to just appreciate the scenery.

Interestingly Enough...
So, interestingly enough, it'll run its course. There's not much you can do to stop it from running its course. I'm no wise old woman, but I know life well enough to tell you that problems need to happen. Bad things need to happen. I spent many of my teenage years trying to stop anything from going wrong; trying to stay in my comfort zone and protect myself from the world around me. But it just doesn't happen like that. It's like sitting in the rain but not expecting to get wet, like putting your head underwater and never wanting to come up for air. It just doesn't go that way.
