Life: The Greatest Balancing Act
Being only 18, there is so much to life that I have yet to discover. However, I have experienced a lot within these years—lessons and events that have helped me to grow into the individual I am today. I have learned that to truly enjoy life and to make the most of it, it is important to find a balance in everything you do.

Powerlessness & Invincibility
Breathtaking. That’s the only word that comes to mind when I remember this day and this view. One of my favorite places in Oregon (truthfully, my list of favorite places there is quite long), Crown Point will always be a place I make a point to visit when I travel there. It was actually one of my first adventures in Oregon when I first moved to Vancouver, WA in the fall of 2014.

Vacations Cost Too Much, Here's a Solution
Sometimes I just want to catch the cheapest flight out of my current location to somewhere new. I've caught myself Googling "cheapest flights from X" too many times. I've even looked into my credit card's points to see if I have enough to go somewhere.

When Going Up, Don't Look Down
Why is it when we work toward our dreams and goals, it seems like they are so far away? What can we do to reach those goals and dreams without feeling like we are only taking steps backward? People always tell me: just stay positive and good things will come to you. However, as we all know, that is easier said than done, right? I am hopeful that things will just work themselves out, regardless of how hard I am working. What goals and dreams do you have? Maybe you just don't have the right help in accomplishing them because you haven't looked at all of the angles. I try my best to look at the big picture and figure out what I will need exactly in order to accomplish my goals and dreams, whether they are short term or long term. So, what do you need to accomplish yours? Who will you ask for help? How can you help yourself?

Now, Later, or Never
Going back and forth with my head is so tiring. I'm the type of thinker that no matter what, I always go to the extreme with any given thought, and then I get so fixated on some particular aspect of that thought until I'm finally in a very, deep, emotional well. Whew.

Moral Honesty
Recently I listened to the Brilliant Idiots podcast and it made me think about moral honesty — the ability for us as people to speak our truth even when there could be repercussions. As simple as this seems, this can be very difficult for us all. I question why we feel the need to hide who we are and our systems of belief. Moral honesty is necessary for our progression as people even though it can be more comfortable to walk with the crowd.

When I Mess Things Up
Have you ever just sat pissed off trying to blame someone else for your fuck up? Even when you attempt to be honest with yourself you still find your anger trying to direct the blame elsewhere. When I mess things up, I typically accept my part and move on, but this screw up has me all twisted trying to save my emotional sanity. I want to blame someone else and to talk about how they put me in the position that I am in now, but I cannot. All I can do is accept the responsibility and move on. Deal with my screw up and try to do better.

How I Am Improving Myself
Up until February of this year, I resided out west with my mother, step-father and four younger siblings. I was 19, had quit my job as a babysitter, and was mooching off my mother for four months as my impending moving day inched ever closer. I was getting paid $10 a day for 12-24 hour shifts with three children, frequently living at their house (for free). I often was not paid on time, my bosses (the children’s parents) were abusive towards each other, and I got the dreadful end of the consistently. I have been physically, mentally and sexually abused (only since moving across the country) and was drained from a decade of consistent abuse from one source or another.
