How to Magnify Your Focus
One morning I decided I would sun gaze while training with the bo staff on the rooftop. I was trying to do both at the same time and learned a valuable lesson. This lesson came in the form of intense pain. There was a moment, as I was twirling the staff in my hand, that I looked towards the sun. In that moment, I was thwacked on the top of the head. The pain was sudden and sharp, but it got the point across. My first thought at this pain was actually a positive one. "Good," I said in my mind. I understood this was a sign that I had lost my focus. I lost focus because I was trying to do two things at once. It was a reminder for me to get smacked in the head by the very weapon I used for training.

Miracles
The morning sun is bright on my cracked windshield. The temperature is a bit of summer perfection, the windows are down. As I turn onto the highway headed to teach a weekly yoga journey, my intention is twofold: be of service and watch for miracles. For good measure, I add the intention to get my damn windshield fixed.

When Until Arrives
You decide to plant a bamboo tree. Every day you water and fertilize this tree. After a few days pass by, you see nothing. You continue to water it for weeks and see nothing. Weeks turn to months, and still you see nothing. You continue to water it for a year and you see nothing. Three years go by and yet you see nothing. Finally, after five long years, the bamboo tree shoots up to over eighty feet tall in a matter of six weeks. The question is of course is: Did it take six weeks, or five years?
