Is It Possible to be Truly Happy?
A college student's perspective on happiness, kind of.
Happiness is defined by “the state of being happy.”
Psychologists studying the phenomena for years have stated simply that happiness is a person who experiences frequent positive emotions, including joy, interest, and pride, and infrequent negative emotions, including sadness, anxiety, and anger.
There is; however, a ton of research still left to explore in the topic, but it can be safely said happiness equals someone who feels joy more than anxiety, love more than hate, and interest more than sadness. Although there are many steps to learning what makes you happy, here are three simple ones that encourage you to pursue happiness and could even make you feel content: kiss the floor, eat deer meat, and find a muse.
Kiss the floor, or the ground, that you step onto every morning. This is a small thing that anyone can do, and it does not require actual floor-kissing. Instead, it means to acknowledge the fact that you have been granted another day on this ground. As a token of appreciation for breathing another day, you kiss the floor.
This can be done by thanking your higher power, saying good morning to the ceiling, or calling yourself sunshine. Any form of positive affirmation to prove you are here and ready for the next day is granted to you. And there will, of course, be times when you’re not prepared for the day. That’s where eating deer meat comes into play.
This is a personal life moment, and I’m happy to have it: I weigh 258 pounds (and counting). For years I’ve struggled to lose weight and get into the routine, healthy BMI that my body fits in. It’s depressing to watch up sometimes and know that I still am the same weight (or even more).
When I have moments like these, I eat a healthy serving of deer meat, and the feelings disappear.
They say you are what you eat. They never tell you that what you could be making you feel underwhelming. It’s critical to your body and mood to have a diet that consists of foods that uplift you. In my case, the deer meat makes my negative feelings disappear because they balance out my hormones to healthy levels. However, the food may be expensive or hard to find, and that’s where step three can play in your favor.
This is a small guilty pleasure; I’ve been watching soap operas since I was ten. And I actually fell in love with one of the actors, as many people do with other stars. When my mood is down, I flick on YouTube and watch him act because he loves performing.
Find a muse is simply finding someone, loving someone, and observing what they love to do.
It could be a celebrity or your next-door neighbor. Being around people in good spirits tends to uplift you by default, for it’s genuine. But you fall for someone negative and hate what they do-you end feeling that pain as well. That negative energy invaded your body and turns your emotions to the point of apathy towards everything. Being engaged with someone who loves what they are is one of the best ways to pursue true happiness.
Kissing the floor/ground in the morning, eating deer meat in the afternoon, and relaxing with your muse at night at some key ways you can start finding your happiness.
In addition, showing appreciation for what you have, filling your body with mood-boosting foods, and surrounding your aura with positive energy; when you combine these three things together, your happiness begins blooming.
“Eat, Love, Pray” was on the earliest path to discovering true happiness. But the book gave you instructions, directions on how you should live your life; the flaw was it can’t. Only you truly know what makes you happy, and those previously discussed are the first step.
The only thing you have to do now is figuring out what your phrases are.
