Invest In Yourself

That hobby of yours, what would you really like to do with it?

By NPublished 5 years ago 3 min read

Ever felt in a mental roundabout, that feeling you get when you notice your everyday agenda is repetitive? I get it, it's frustrating, but after you claim your independence from your parents, you notice it begins: the same old routine. Yes, going to work is a MUST since most likely, something you own has payments of certain intervals, whether that be your home, car, phone bill, oh how I could go on. But when you have a hobby you always wanted to invest time in and you're always drained of energy by time you finish your daily routine, it begins to bog on your mind. Usually, this hobby you enjoy is something you're good at, and probably feel that if it were a career, you'd excel. Some of us get our start at work in our teenage years, and by time you're moving on your own, you might've built up quite a resume. However, if you had a love of a hobby and instead of working to find your place in the workforce while keeping the bills paid, you found a way to work while enjoying your hobby, you'd be more at ease. Sometimes when your favorite hobby is your job, you find out you can basically work non-stop, because you're enjoying yourself, and wherever it comes from, income will be rushing at you like a torrent of water. But some like to pick apart their hobbies from money making opportunities, just so they can genuinely enjoy themselves without the need for urgency due to financial obligations. It depends on the person, and how much balance they want between enjoying their hobbies and taking care of their finances. But if there's anything I can say, it's take time to enjoy yourself. Don't let the work life turn you into a robot, you need time to refresh your mental state. Humans have the ability to conform their minds to their environments, and that's why some fall into a daily routine cycle and choose not to look out of it, despite the fatigue and stress they feel. This isn't correct, and when new dynamics are added, such as the birth of a child or anything that'll cram up more space in your day, you might end up prioritizing and knock off any time for yourself, which means your beloved hobbies. Yes, you must certainly prioritize because doing things out of order will only spell trouble, but think first before you do: certain things in life you make a decision for, such as having kids, or working that double. Think about this: What are you doing for yourself that doesn't involve money or a loved one? Are there things you would like to do? Can you manage to fit it into your routine? Will it negatively affect any aspect of your day? These things are imperative in planning on enjoying your hobbies. Once you've mapped out everything, do as you please. However, if you decide that you want to turn a hobby into a source of income, you know it's not a gap that can be bridged easily. Which is why you find a way to promote your ability, whether that be through word of mouth, or ad services such as Google Ads. Once you see it beginning to gain momentum, you keep the ball rolling until your new source of income overtakes your current one. At that point is when the bridge is ready to cross. The choice is yours once you reach that point, whether you will invest full time into your hobbies, or split time for your regular work. The main advantage of keeping a regular job, if you ask me, is a guaranteed income, plus tax season relief. Knowing that earning self income past a certain amount is required to be reported to your tax division, you'd be paying nothing but taxes, and if you haven't exceeded your required financial obligations by at least a few thousand dollars, you'd be empty handed by Tax Day. That's why having a payroll job would be beneficial while building your self income. If your self income eventually exceeds your finances by a large margin, you just be sure to leave some of the income locked up for tax season. All in all, you just never forget about having you-time. It's good for your mental state, and if you want to, you could turn it into your dream job. And as I'll say, "With having a passion as your job, you'll never feel the work."
