Introducing Tipping: A Fresh Way to Earn Support for Your Creations

Tipping is a brand new way for creators to receive direct support for their work.

By Bharath SPublished 3 years ago 3 min read

At Vocal, we strongly believe that exceptional stories deserve to be rewarded. That's why we created the tipping feature to help fund your creativity. Tipping allows your audience to tip you directly for your stories, helping you to raise money for a project or receive support for your passion. We take a 7% transfer fee to support Vocal, which enables you to continue creating without invasive display ads.

Moreover, tipping another creator is a fantastic way to show your support for them. Here's everything you need to know about tipping:

Why Tipping?

At Vocal, our creators are our partners. We provide direct monetization via reads and want to enable our creators to support each other. Tipping is part of the sharing economy, also known as collaborative consumption. If you enjoy a creator's story, you should have the option to show your appreciation, and vice versa.

Best of all, tipping helps Vocal to remain display ad-free. No one enjoys ads that keep popping up while trying to read a story, including us. That's why we take a 7% fee - it helps us provide an ad-free experience for everyone involved. It's a win-win situation.

How to Send a Tip

If you've read a creator's story on Vocal and want to show your support by tipping them, it's easy to do so. Look for the "Send a Tip" option at the end of the story or on their author page, provided the creator has the tipping feature enabled.

Choose the amount you wish to send and select your preferred payment method. All tips are processed through Stripe, which accepts a variety of payment options, including Apple Pay, credit cards, and debit cards.

Please note that if you tip an international author, Stripe may charge an additional fee. To learn more, visit Stripe.

How to Receive a Tip

To receive a tip, you need to connect Stripe to your Vocal account. The tipping option won't be available to your readers if Stripe isn't connected.

Once Stripe is connected, you can keep track of the tips you receive in your Wallet. Under "Tips," you'll find a list of the tips you've received, along with the story or profile from which they were sent.

As you've connected Vocal to Stripe, any tips you receive will go directly to your bank account. You won't need to withdraw from your Vocal Wallet to Stripe.

How Tipping Can Help You Create More

Tipping offers various ways for readers to support creators beyond showing appreciation for their work:

Earn extra income: Creating content for a living isn't easy. It requires hard work and luck. Tipping allows you to earn more money from your work, as everyone should be paid to do what they love.

Raise funds for a cause: Sometimes, you may need funding for a worthy cause, but can't provide funds alone. You can write a story about it, and your readers can tip to support your cause.

Crowdfund for a project: Crowdfunding is a popular 21st-century concept, and there's no better way to receive support for your aspirations than by receiving tips. People enjoy knowing that they contributed to someone's success - it's a priceless feeling.

These are only a few ways tipping can help you and your fellow creators. Join the collective community, and every little bit counts. If every person who reads your story gave a dollar, it could change your life!

Tips to Increase Your Chances of Receiving Tips

Ask for a tip in your story (politely): It's vital to avoid begging for money throughout your story. Instead, ask politely for a tip at the end and relate it to your content.
