Imagination Happens

When you write about it

There have been many times when I have sat at my desk with a journal book and some scrap papers... I literally would sit there thinking about what to write, but my mind would go blank. Then I would say to myself, " this time, I am going to write something!" then I stay staring at the blank paper, I write then erase then I don't write anything.

Whether it was to type on my laptop or desktop, or just on a regular notebook; It would take me forever to begin the process. I wasted years imagining but not making it happen. You see, if we just imagine without having the passion to put it into action, nothing will happen. It just won't.

Just recently at work, we attended a mandatory training, titled "Positive Interviewing" not to get into details but we discussed how to turn a negative question into a positive as in a close and open response method. After the training meeting, we were given examples of positive quotes, and I came across a quote from Bruce Lee that says, "If you spend too much time thinking about a thing, you'll never get it done..." And I said to myself wow, that is so true; I wasted too much time thinking about what to write or even what to do for a living or imagining if I ever would make it in anything in life.

When I was just a child, I remember I would playschool. I always had a stack of scrap papers and a pencil in my hands. I imagined I was working in a school. I had students my dolls sitting on the floor. I would write assignments and read to them. I did this often throughout my childhood.

As a matter of fact, in "real" school, my favorite subjects were reading and writing. Therefore, it was in me the whole time. However, it wasn't until I became an adult that I took a real interest in teaching. I realized that my childhood imagination had a purpose in my life. I thought to myself that this was indeed my passion, so I took the opportunity. Although I did not have my teaching credentials, I took an exam to become a Paraprofessional and passed it.

Shortly after, I started working in a middle school nearby where I lived. I worked as an assistant teacher then as a substitute teacher. Not having my credentials did not stop me from pursuing my interest in teaching. Therefore, a childhood imagination came to pass, and now, I am 'writing' about it.

It was a rewarding experience to work in the educational field. Also, it was a privilege to help students who were struggling academically. My greatest joy was hearing the humble stories of their childhood imaginations.

Today, as an adult; a wife, mother, and grandmother, I believe that I could become a writer and accomplish anything that I might be interested in. If it is a passion within me then it could happen. I feel strongly about this because I truly believe that imagination happens when you write about it.

Just like my childhood imagination of working in a school; it happened. Also, becoming an assistant teacher happened. If you look at it, is as if as a child these were hidden goals in my life. What are some of your childhood hidden goals? Write about it and share them here.

I'm sure that some of you have similar stories to share, perhaps, you like me are staring at your notebook. And your mind is absolutely in a blank mode, - be mindful of this...
