I Can Soar Like An Eagle

It took 90 years for me to learn enough to write this story. Now since I am now 90 I may be exaggerating a little, but I did start learning when I was born. Life has been wonderful and I hope I have chance to spend more of it with you. I did not have much chance early in life. I was born right smack in the beginning of the Great Depression. I was fortunate enough to have a younger brother, Don. We did everything together, we worked, we played. we laughed and cried. We did not realize that we were growing up right in the worst of times. We made the best of it. Coming from a poor family with o children there was no chance to get anything at home but enough to keep u alive. But the Great Depression taught us lot about life. That is if you wanted to hustle there was always a way to earn some cash. ow for many of us there was not much chance of getting a school education. There was work, work and more work. Sometime it was helping someone clean out their garage. The payment was we got to keep all of the old scrap metal laying around. We then called old Johnnie, a dear black may who would pickup the scrap, sell it and give us out share. Sometime it was simple s helping the pharmacist by delivering his products. Another job was staying behind at night to help the local grocer clean the stor. Any was you look at it, life was never dull. Back then I never realized that I was learning a lesson in life that would carry me through the years.

The best lifelong lesson was never be afraid of work. Do not put a price that others can not handle. Always give more than you get paid for. Now this concept will not help you get rich but it has added a lot of happiness to my life. How can yo figure this. Mom, Dad, all of the aunts and uncles most friends are gone and just 3 still alive. Now even though I told you that I never passed eighth grade I cheated a little. Early on I got my Ged exam and graduated from high. The next job took 10 years At 65 I started college and at 75 I walked across the stage at the University of New Orleans and graduated from college. This was one of the most thrilling times of my life. Out of all of my immediate family members I was the only one to graduate from college.

The next step was one of the most important in my life. It was to break into the business world. Around 1960 I took a training program From The World famous Dane Carnegie course. To say that it was a stunning experience is an understatement. At the time I was a truck driver, a milkman for the Borden Company. I delivered milk products all over the city for thirteen years. It was a great experience but it was time to move on to one of the most wonderful years of my life. I met and made friends with a giant of a man, Bill Henry. He was the most exciting most progressive most inspirational man around. We became close friends and often went to get a cup of coffee together, We had both been selling the world famous Dale Carnegie Course and after a few years we were making no headway. On one such coffee trip we sat at the table and Bill shared that he was in desperate need for $5,000. He said that he was ready to start his own training business. I excused myself, got up from the table and went to make a phone call. When I got back to the table I said lets take a trip to the bank. He asked why and was shocked at my answer. I said, lets go get the $5000. For that small amount of money I became partners with one of the most powerful motivational speakers of the twentieth century. We started our on training business We talked about a name He suggested "Sales Consultants research Advertising and Marketing. I did not like that name because it started with Scram, We named the company The Success Center. Now even today after over 60 years I still use this name for selling my book.

I have no idea how long you wanted this story a I will stop here. With all of life's lessons the greatest lesson way growing up in th Great Depression. Everything is getter than that. But the lesson is never quit. Don't ever accept defeat. I can if I think I can. Dale Carnegie, Zig Zigler, Bill Henry were right. There is nothing as powerful as a positive attitude

success
