How to slow down life
Everyone is in hurry in modern world , is it right ?
Sometime it feels days or months are passing very fast, even though we have done much work during this time period.
These time gaps feels very frustrating as our mind thought we have spend our most of our life without even acknowledge.
But in reality time run equally for all the existing species and there is no way we can change time and if we want to slow time for us then according to Albert Einstein relativity theory, there is an assumption that if we can travel faster than the speed of light then time will be slower for you in comparison to others but unfortunately, mankind do not have much resources so they can surpass time.
Also it is only our mind who make us feel time passing by at different rates.
So there are two ways to slow down time first you can make your own time travel machine or second follow some of the tips to slow down life.
First let’s talk why we are facing such issue
1) Work and work- In the fast paced life we always busy doing work, to achieve something or just keep up with others. We lost our life valuable time in doing a same work over and over and exhausted our all energy and willingness in it.
2) Lack of enjoyment- we are so busy in doing our works that we forgot about joy and happiness, and when we think about our past then we face a void.
3) Thinking about future- desire to make your own future bright led you in a condition where you need to sacrifice your present. So you neglect your present and run to chase a good and prosperous future.
4) Aging- time is relative for all of us but how we perceive time is a complete different concept, as the time for an old person and young age person are different as in childhood we are experiencing all things at first time and they are new for us so the memory develop in this age are more memorable than the old age where we are almost habitual of all things and our brain does not find those things important to store for long term and that why children feel time to be slow in comparison to elders because in childhood our brain works as a rookie try to learn and memorize everything while in older age it goes on autopilot mode.
5) Alzheimer- it is a brain disease in this situation person are unable to memorize day to day life simple task and keep losing its previous memory the symptoms are difficulty in problem solving, confuse between time or places, trouble understanding images, unable to speak or write, change in mood etc. In modern science there is no effective treatment available for this however certain drugs are use to slow down its effect.
And here the solution
• Do not rush
• Contact with nature
• Take deep breaths
• Adopt a pet
• Plant a tree
• Get new experience
• Focus while talking with others
• Make purpose of living
• Make your to do list short but meaningful
• Do not be a day dreamer
• Do not over think
• Change in routine
• Record all your daily experience in a diary
• Spend time away with technology
• Remove clutter from life
• Learn say to NO
• Spend time with love ones
1) Do not rush- Always in a hurry can’t make your focus on the present situation so
a) Wake up 15-20 minutes earlier than your actual wake up time, so that your mind gets enough time to refresh.
b) Do some exercise to remove tiredness for being energetic.
c) Take proper diet before leaving your home.
d) Prepare your all stuff (cloths, bag pack, and tools) before night.
2) Contact with nature- Most of the time, we are in office and home so make a routine to spend some your time in nature and feel the winds flowing, listen the voice of birds etc as it is proven that it release you from stress, anxiety. And it slows down the pace of life.
3) Take deep breaths- whenever something bothers you then you are overwhelmed with that thought, and waste your precious time in that so for cure you can take deep breath for continuously 2 to 3 minute as it releases extra thoughts from your mind and you feel relaxed.
4) Adopt a pet- A person find it life going fast when he or she is lonely so try to adopt a pet so the time which you utilize in only resting and thinking will be with your pet i.e. going for a walk, playing ,cuddling, feeding etc. It is noticed by the scientist that the time which we utilize with pets are recallable after a long period of time. In pet dogs are the most loyal and loving animal.
5) Plant a tree- As sometimes it is hard to unfollow same routine for a long time so when you see the calendar you find yourself way ahead of time as you mind can’t remember what you have done in the past so to make your mind notice every situation, plant a tree in your lawn or outside the house and nourish it by yourself. As the tree grows day by day so your unconscious mind can observe the growth of tree with respect to time and it will make you believe that you are living your life in a slower pace.
6) Get new experience- In our daily busy lives try to manage some time to learn something new, it can be anything like swimming, playing video game, new language etc or if you are lacking in time than you can learn something new in your own work field i.e. if you are cook then try to make new recipes. As it is found that people who try new things experience shorter duration of time compare with same people but not indulge with extra activity.
7) Focus while talking with others- most of the time we spend while talking with our family, friends, colleagues, teachers, clients etc but at those times we are not even listening to them properly as we are distracted from our mind and only our body is present at that situation which let us into the situation where we lose our interest and start feeling exhausted and we try to get out of situation as fast as possible as we can feel one minute equal to one hour so to avoid that situation disconnect with all the things which are preventing you from focus i.e. smart phone, crazy thoughts, etc. And do meditations regularly as it increase your willpower and focus.
8) Make purpose of living- human beings are the most unique species available in this globe due to its intelligence. Unlike the others species we make our own purpose of living and works to achieve that purpose so that even after death we are known by the world. A person without purpose makes their life meaningless and is no different from animals. A purpose adds values in our life.
9) Make your to do list short but meaningful- no matter how many hours you work in a day there are always work which need to be done so work endlessly is not a good option besides arrange your to do list according to work preference and work for certain hours so that you can maintain time for your other extra activities.
10) Do not be a day dreamer- it happens most of the times when during work we start thinking pleasant thoughts and as a result we are unaware from the present situation. Mostly people who have no interest in work start day dreaming and over whelmed by thoughts, wasting their precious time.
But there are ways we can stop day dreaming
a) Start Taking interest in work.
b) Do not let your mind roaming, keep it busy.
c) Start analyzing the present situation.
d) If you start day dreaming than withdraw your focus from one thing and first control your mind so concentrate on objects near you and simultaneously change your focus in other object in 4 to 5 seconds and do it at least for 1 minute.
e) And if it happen in then you must consult a doctor.
11) Do not over think- as the word “over think” itself explain its meaning that thinking too much before or after doing work. A person with over thinking nature will never be satisfied with their result as it assume a probability that work can be done in a more perfect and productive way. The over can occur due to mental health problem like anxiety, depression, so as a cure you need to rest, take 2 to 3 days break from work and focus only on you.
12) Change in routine- we are humans not machines and so we can’t follow the same routine as them. The human’s memory is very complicated as it permanently record things in same manner if they are in routine. For example you cannot tell what dish or food you have eaten on the past unless it is your favourite or something unique that you have eaten first time unless then also you cannot tell the exact date and month as you follow in routine all your life so it does not bother your brain to make a proper record of it. So it make you believe that time is going fast so slightly change in your routine from time to time can slower your life as it take time to process new information which we are able to memorize for a long time.
13) Record all your daily experience in a diary- in your all day there are some moments which are unique on its own, you need to memorize it to make it stored long in your brain so at the end of the day make a habit to write a diary because while writing you will recall your all day experiences which will make you notice on the every expect of situation and thus everyday will be new for you and you will feel a rhythm in your life.
14) Spend time away with technology- technology makes our life easier by helping us to connect with the outer world and making task simpler. But always being in virtual world can resist you from your near belongings. So maintain a proper distance from technology is a great way to slow down. You can turn off your phone for 2 to 3 hours, maintain time schedule for using computer, laptops, TV and instead of resting in AC make yourself comfortable in nature etc.
15) Remove clutter from life- to slow down your life a great way is to remove clutter from your life and it apply everywhere starting from your house, remove the things which are of no use and are wasting your time and resources, the less belongings you have the less it will take time to manage them. Also same as the belongings remove all the negative thoughts and people from your life as they are no more than clutter and removing them will organize your life.
16) Learn say to NO- stop yourself from taking unwanted commitments and activities as they only give you more burden. There is no need to every time agree with others, you have every right to say no to others. However it may be difficult for you if you are a people pleaser person. Whenever you say yes to others that mean you have less time for your own life.
17) Spend time with love ones- a great way to practice slow down life is to share your valuable time with love ones as they make valuable impression in our lives. They make us feel full of happiness and joy whenever we are with them.
